We were only here for four nights but it was a very relaxing, comfortable stay. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly, and the room was well equipped and comfortable. The breakfast menu included a wide choice of continental offerings followed by a great cooked menu as well. The garden area with the pool has a really relaxed atmosphere and there is a lane running by the side of the hotel which leads to Petit Bo bay, so a great way to walk off the lovely breakfast. The hotel also has a bar, which again is friendly, relaxed and welcoming.I wish we had booked to stay longer and would definately like another visit.

On arrival our reception was extremely friendly and welcoming. The room was spotlessly clean and the fresh cup of tea in the room most welcome.
Breakfast of fruit juice followed by a "Full English" ( one regular and one vegetarian ) topped out with some fresh grapefruit afterwards, set us up for the day's walking.
After four hours walking along the nearby clifftop paths we were pleased with the free bus passes to get us back to the Hotel - where the bus stops right outside on the main circular route around the Island.
The evening meals were five star quality - as was the service and the chef deserves a Michelin rating. By prior ( secretive) arrangement the chef produced a personal Strawberry Broule Napoleon - complete with candles - to celebrate my partners special birthday.
The outdoor pool complete with complimentary fresh bathing towels and comfortable sun loungers made the late afternoon period a perfect time to relax - in the suntrapped garden - prior to preparing ourselves for the splendid evening fare. The pool is so good that the proprietor himself enjoys an afternoon swim. Exceptionally there were even swimming aids available - much to my partner's delight.
The holiday was almost like a honeymoon - and it was certainly a birthday treat my partner will never forget.
Thank you to the management and staff for such a wonderful experience.

We don't demand much from hotels and I would like to start with saying that we absolutely enjoyed our stay in Le Chene and that we have nothing to complain about. But I do like to give is what I consider an honest review.

The staff of the hotel has been very friendly and extremely helpful, and also interested in what we have been up to during the day. This made us feel very welcome and gave the feeling we were at home. The location is, if you are on Guernsey to enjoy walking, cycling, the cliffs, swimming and nature, perfect. We did hear the planes, but it never bothered me. And I loved the fact that we had to take only ten steps to find the peace of the island.

The room how ever was old fashioned and our bathroom facilities poor. Everything functioned, true, but it was not at all comfortable, the way you expect it to be in a holiday hotel.

And I must say we were very disappointed about the food. Many reviews here mention the food and I haven't found a review saying something negative. So it encouraged us to have dinner at Le Chene as well. Maybe the chef had a day off or an off-day, but we did not return to the restaurant of Le Chene. The choice of menu was uninspired and so was the food. I expect more creativity from a chef.

All in all: stay at Le Chene and go for a beautiful walk, for instance to another restaurant.

We returned in September for our 14th visit to the hotel, we had, as we have in the past four years, the self catering apartment. As usual it was absolutely ready for us and looking as smart as ever. This year the bathroom had been upgraded which was much appreciated. We had friends join us for a mid-week break, in the hotel, so we went into the dining room on occasions with them for an evening meal. My wife is vegetarian and the option is always excellent and for me the fish choices are too. We are just looking at our diaries to see when we will return in 2011.

We had 3 nights in Le Chene in October 2010. On arrival, we were given an immediate upgrade to the family room opposite reception in the main hotel. The room had been recently refurbished, and was excellent. We were lucky to arrive during the Tennerfest, when many hotels and restaurants (including Le Chene) provide 2 or 3 course meals for £10, so we were able to eat cheaply and well. Food at Le Chene was very good indeed. Location might be a drawback for some people, but we took the car, though buses to and from St Peter Port and elsewhere stop almost outside the hotel. The nearness of the airport was not really a noise problem. We would very happily stay at Le Chene again.

This hotel was great value for money. We had free use of the Hotel Smart Car included. I guess it would be good if you're out and about all day and not in the room. The following will explain why it's not great if you longer periods in the hotel. It is dated and in parts in need of minor maintenance (note that there are no pictures of the rooms on the website). However it was properly clean. Also the majority of rooms are not in the quaint building on the website but in an annex to one side and I agree with one previous reviewer that the walls are too thin; we could hear next door snoring. The staff were very friendly but the service only scored three because a lot of the staff didn't understand some basic requests in English. The 'double' bed was two singles joined together (I hate that) and the pillows were hard pancakes. The shower was not thermostatically controlled and therefore could go from hot to uncomfortably hot randomly. Location scored one because it is in the flight path for Guernsey airport and it is right on one of the busiest roads and busiest junctions. Also the look and ambience of the place would probably only suit those over sixty.
