Walk across the causeway to Burgh Island. Big beach when the tides out, great fun as the tide comes in!

“Dog beach central”
Reviewed 2 August 2012 via mobile

Classic gem of the south Devon coast spoilt by the number of inconsiderate dog owners allowing their dogs to run loose and bark everywhere. (amongst other things). It's made worse by the other beaches in the area not allowing dogs in the peak holiday season. South Hams District Council need to sort this out. Otherwise great and would have been 5 stars. ....and we're dog owners ourselves.

“Bigbury on Sea - sunshine, a stroll, a paddle and an ice cream”
Reviewed 9 July 2012

What a fabulous location, lovely to walk across to Burgh Island and enjoy a drink at the famous 1336 Pilchard Inn. Parking is £1.60 per hour (and don't forget to buy a ticket we were there for 2 hours and forgot and got a £50 fine, £25 if you pay it quickly). At low tide you can walk across to Burgh Island and dogs can enjoy the beaches to the right and left and must be on the lead as they go across the middle, and on Burgh Island which due to sheer drop cliffs is a very good idea - keep your children very close as there's really no warning about the drops. We had a nice ice cream at the Venus cafe which is over-priced for food, but the only one at the beach. A very nice afternoon.

“..it's a dogs world !”
Reviewed 6 July 2012

Long and narrow winding road down to this beach with it's tide that comes at you from all directions, limiting where you can sit. Very exposed so bit of a wind tunnel even on a seemingly calm day and completely spoiled by the number of dogs running loose all the time ! Not my ideal beach at all.
