We have been a few times to this school now and we keep coming back. They run surf clubs for the kids and lessons for anyone else. They can get busy but the cope well. They have plenty of wet suits even on busy days and never seem to run out of boards. Bigbury is also an ideal place to surf or lurn to surf as they have a great variety of conditions due to the estuary near by. As mentioned before the instructors are very friendly and know what they are doing.

“Best surf lesson i've had to date....”
Reviewed 10 July 2013

I've had quite a few lessons in my time as I try to become a better surfer (still struggling). The guys at Discovery were outstanding, I really felt that this was a more productive lesson than any of the techniques I have been taught previously. They really know their stuff.

I even managed to ride an unbroken wave and most of all, we all had a great time!

The surf school is located in the idyllic location of Bigbury, with a great beach, a couple of nice places to eat and an outstanding pub on the famous Burgh Island.

A magical weekend that the family and i won't forget!

“Factory-like Surf School”
Reviewed 9 September 2012

There were no reviews up on Discovery when we first looked. So we went with no expectations. Bigbury is at the end of a long narrow road, that is an adventure in itself. Leave plenty of time to navigate it.

The 'school' felt a bit like a factory, in that it just tried to pump through as many as it could in what is likely a very short season. Needless to say on the flat day we went out, there was no suggestion that it would be better to come another day. Instead the full, large fee was taken by the unfriendly lass behind the counter, and we were sent on a 10-15 minute walk to where the lesson was.

On a brighter note the young guy that taught us was lovely. We stood up and rode a few small short waves in. The size of the boards means it's like standing on a billiard table after 3 pints. Not that hard.

If you are in the area in summer and have too much cash, your kids are going to love this. If you are coming from further afield in hope of learning to surf, you could likely do better.

“Unanimously the best day of holidays”
Reviewed 7 September 2012

We booked a family private lesson at bigbury. After the mortifying shame of wearing a wetsuit had passed. We were all hooked. Our children excelled and were up nearly ever wave, but the adults were less talented. We all had a blast and it was such a laugh. The one on one attention that a private lesson provided, added to the experience hugely

Thank you so much.
