We have just spent a wonderful week at the Garden Apartment in Bigbury-on-Sea and would recommend it to everybody looking for a great base in Devon.

We were visiting for a family wedding and Gill was a fantastic owner, helpful, patient and very accommodating with all the comings and goings of family and friends during the week. Nothing was too much trouble and everybody welcomed.

We arrived after a long drive from essex to a fantastic homemade cream tea and bottle of wine to enjoy in the beautiful garden with a spectacular view of the sea. We found the apartment well equipped for all our needs including wifi and a full gas bottle for the barbeque which was put to good use.

The apartment is within easy walking distance of the beach, Bay View café and Burgh Island. Salcombe, Totnes, Plymouth and Modbury are all short drives away. We found that the convenient location makes the apartment a great place for exploring Devon and then returning to relax in the garden with wonderful sea views.

We had the pleasure of welcoming the Bride's Sister & Brother-in-Law and and also prior to the Wedding ceremony, the future Bride and Bridegroom. We were delighted to join in the excitement surrounding the wedding and to hear all the news of the Hog Roast held at the nearby farm where the friends of the Bride & Groom enjoyed a fabulous week-end camping and joining in the celebrations of the happy couple, their family and friends. A good time was had by all and will no doubt bring back many happy memories in the years to come. We wish them every happiness. Gill.

“Lovely stay in Bigbury on sea”

Thank you Gill for letting us stay in your lovely appartment. We had a great time with our almost 5 year old grandson. He had a ball, we went on the beach every day, our grandson sporting a wetsuit that Gill kindly let him use. There is so much to do In the area, we could have stayed another week and not been bored. We loved the accommodation and the gardens. We barbecued twice and had a fish and chip supper from the local chippy van which was freshly cooked and beautiful.
We ordered a food delivery from Tesco which Gill put away for us. We thoroughly enjoyed our cream tea on arrival, thanks!
We were a little cold at the end of the day and Gill was only to happy to put the central heating on which warmed us up nicely.

It was a lovely surprise to have Jane, Husband, Daughter and super Grandson Leo return after 4 years, especially as they say they never go back to the same place twice! It was a joy to see Leo dashing off down our 'secret' path to the beach in his wet suit, complete with bucket, spade and pink fishing net. I did apologise for the colour, but he said he didn't mind! He's lucky to have such ffantastic Grandparents! It was nice that Jane's sister and family were staying at the Henley Hotel just up the road and were able to join them for a BBQ on the Apartment Terrace. Dare we hope they might come for a 3rd time - let's hope so!! Gill.

What charming Guests and being keen golfers were spoilt for choice with some 4 courses nearby. We're still looking for one of John's golf balls in the garden! It was very gratifying that when leaving they enquired about vacancies in 2015, as they would love to bring their two young Grandsons on holiday here in Bigbury. We look forward to welcoming the next generation!

It's given us great pleasure to see how the two super boys have grown over the past 3 years. Their pleasure in what the beach has to offer is always a joy to see. At their age they seem to delight in hours on the beach discovering the most amazing treasures - all of which they generously share with me! Their parents are amazing, showing such patience and commitment to giving them the best two weeks holiday ever.
We look forward to having the Chesters back this Summer for their 4th year.Gill.

“Amazing Views and Location, Superb Host and Very Relaxing”
Reviewed 31 March 2014 for a stay in August 2013

The appartment is in an excellent location with a two minute walk down to a lovely beach. The views from the windows and garden are wonderful and make you really feel like you are on holiday. Gill provides a lovely welcome on arrival and is always very helpful throughout the stay. The beach is great for everyone with sand and rockpools and the causeway across to the island provides fun for all. The appartment is clean and snuggly. We always look forward to returning here for our holidays.

“Our Secret Haven.”
Reviewed 24 March 2014 for a stay in August 2013

Bigbury on Sea is our favourite place to come for our family holiday. The Garden apartment overlooks amazing views. We like space and privacy on holiday and this spectacular garden ticks all the boxes. If you have children it is so convenient to get to the beach which is down a little path at the bottom of the garden, then you cross the road and you are on the beach. You don't need to fill the car up with all the beach equipment. If you forget something or your little one needs a nap you can just pop back up to the apartment. The post office down the road serves great freshly baked soft rolls for your pack lunches. Gill the proprietor is so welcoming and the children love her. We will be back this year, our fifth time and we can't wait.

It's always a pleasure to welcome this delightful family back each year and to see the children grow. I love seeing them running around our large secure garden, leaving their parents free to read or sunbathe. Jordan is a fantastic footballer and we've known Phoebe since she was born, a real little character! We'll look forward to seeing them again in August.

“Beautiful location with a welcoming host”

This is a superb location with beautiful views of Bigbury Bay, easy access to the beach and lovely local walks. We have been coming to Bigbury on Sea for the past thirty years and this is one of the best locations in which to stay.
Gill is a welcoming, caring host; nothing is too much trouble. Thank you Gill for your welcome and many kindnesses.

We have spent a really enjoyable fortnight in this holiday apartment for the last two years and hope to spend many more holidays here in the future.

It's been great having Mary & Nigel and their family stay with us for the last 2 years and are looking forward to seeing them all for their usual fortnight in September. Mary and her family have built up a special infinity with Bigbury-on-Sea over the last 30 years which is shared by many other returning holiday makers.
