“Beautifully presented B&B in restored Georgian house”
Reviewed 24 March 2014

We stayed at the Brookfield for one night during our recent South West Coast Path walk from Hartland Quay to Croyde. We had booked a standard double en-suite room but when we arrived we were delighted to find we had been given one of the superior rooms at the same price. I think maybe Chris took pity on us as we arrived pretty wet from the rain. This was no trouble as Chris quickly took all our wet things and put them somewhere warm to dry off. Guests are able to use the conservatory as a lounge and a nice touch is that there is a fridge in it that contained fresh milk for guest use; we were also able to put the following day's lunch in it to keep fresh. The bedroom and bathroom were a delight - a real bath to soak those aching legs! The bed was really comfortable and the TV was a decent size at a proper viewing height instead of the smallest model available jammed into a corner at the ceiling you find in most other B&Bs. Breakfast was a delight with scrambled eggs and smoked salmon for both of us. A minor irritation was the Wifi. It does say on their web-site that it is a bit patchy because of the thickness of the walls, which is perfectly valid, but given the money that has clearly been invested in the property to good effect it is a shame that Chris and Julie have chosen to rely on a single router on a landing instead of installing several access points to give good coverage throughout. Nevertheless The Brookfield is a lovely place to stay and we would highly recommend it.

My husband and I stayed here for a short break in August 2013. We were pleasantly surprised that the house is even more than promised! Beautiful house in great location, rooms spotlessly clean and all run by wonderful friendly owners. The breakfast is gorgeous with local quality produce. The Tarka Trial is on your door step as is a bike hire company. This is a great bike ride for any ability offering lovely views, peaceful traffic free cycling, with wonderful stopping points to stop and eat. The town in Braunton itself offers several very very good restaurants. We will definitely return to the area in the future but will have to wait a year or two to be able to take our children with us back to The Brookfield due to their child policy.

I was impressed by the Brookfields website and was even more impressed to see it was exactly what they said it was plus more. Very welcoming, clean and fresh, modern and spacious and filled with a lovely atmosphere. The room I had was immaculate with a beautiful ensuite shower and all the facilites I could possibly need. Every detail of the accommodation seemed well thought out to give their guests the best experience, including a nice conservatory area with fridge and wine glasses! The breakfast was fabulous, fresh fruit salad with cereal followed by a well cooked english. Julie served really well and was like a perfectly tuned hostess. I had the best 3 nights sleeps that I have had in a long time. The B&B was just minutes walk from the centre of Braunton and perfectly situated. If only Devon weather was as reliable and good as the Brookfield! I will certainly return for a summers visit next time.

Room Tip: Wifi reception was excellent in room 4 which is a twin room with shower.

My wife and I stayed at The Brookfield while we were walking a stretch of the coastal path. Julie and Chris made us very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Our room was very comfortable and spacious, with a wonderful shower. The breakfast was delicious and they recommended a number of places for us to eat at in the evening - the meal at the one we chose was excellent. The location is very good and near the centre of Braunton.
All in all The Brookfield is well worthy of it's five star rating.

The Brookfield sets a new standard for this sector. My wife and myself stayed for a long weekend and couldn't fault a thing. There is so much one could say but highlights are: a beautiful, tastefully restored house, parking (almost unheard of in Braunton), very comfortable bed/room, "monsoonal" shower, lovely breakfasts and owners who really care/take a pride in what they do. Thank you.

Room Tip: I expect they're all the same but we were in Room 1 which was great.

Stayed here with daughter, was lucky as they don't normally allow children she is 13. Stayed in same room as me
B&B was a breath of fresh air, not trying to be something that it wasn't, just a well maintained modern B & B with a few twists
Location was great, centre of Braunton near the coast road but also close enough to walk to belay or and the Burrows
Great find

We were very impressed with everything about The Brookfield. The guest accommodation is very spacious with good quality fixtures and fittings. The bed was extremely comfortable and I had my best night's sleep in ages! The breakfasts are very enjoyable and obviously use good quality produce, I didn't see much of Chris, but Julie was a very professional and efficient host. In view of what you get at The Brookfield, the tariff represents very good value for money. It's also blessed with being in a wonderful location, ideally situated for all of North Devon's attractions. Hope to pay another visit in the not too distant future.
