“Delicious!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 July 2014 via mobile

Went here on a family holiday and was really impressed. The place looked inviting and they were very accommodating. We had burgers and the salmon all of which were delicious and very generous portions. We were sad not to be able to sample any desserts but were all incredibly full! A definite must if visiting Braunton.

“lovely restaurant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 July 2014

I went to the Riverside last night for the first time and absolutely loved it. I had the fish cakes and they were beautiful. The staff were very friendly and there is a good atmosphere. The menu all looks so lovely it was hard to choose - can't wait to go back.

“Lovely Dinner on a Friday Night”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 July 2014

We booked a table for 8pm on a Friday night in July for a party of 5, one of the problems we have is that often restaurants push 5 onto a table for 4 but not here we got a lovely table for 6 to share between the 5 of us. The menu is not large but has a lot of interesting dishes and we all found several starters and mains we fancied trying. We started with 2 bread baskets with balsamic and olive oil, the bread was wonderful but later when no one felt they could manage dessert we regretted the bread. Starters one mussels in a tomato, sherry and parsley sauce which came in a pot with bread a generous portion of plump mussels, 2 smoked duck breast again beautifully presented and polished off with gusto, crab samosa which although unusual seems to go down really well and beans on toast.... this was amazing broad beans a tarragon sauce and topped of with a perfectly poached egg.

On to mains the space between course of perfect not rushed but not so long you wondered if it was coming. 2 rib eye steaks one medium rare and one rare to be honest very little difference when served, but both recipients proclaimed the steak to be one of the best in terms of flavour. Portion sizes were again generous. Two of our party fancied the ribs and pulled pork but when they came to order they were told the ribs were finished so they were including more pulled pork, the dish was lovely but we felt if we had known about the ribs before picking we might have ordered differently. The 4 instead of 5 is because it would have been nice if we were told when we were given the menu's about the ribs. Finally salt cod fish cakes really tasty and served with chips.

The service was friendly and well time and we washed it down with a couple of nice bottles of wine priced under £20 a bottle. We will be going back next time we are in Braunton as the meal was lovely, the atmosphere great and the bill reasonable what more can you ask for.

“Excellent food, service, staff and location! (Everytime)...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 July 2014

I've eaten in the Riverside on several occasions, with friends, my partner and even on my own. The food is always great, the staff are friendly so you feel more than welcome, even when you are dining alone. I've personally never had a fault here and always felt everything was above and beyond expectations, especially for the prices. However, this morning (Thursday 10th July), there was another table who were especially horrible and (in my opinion) ruined the atmosphere for everybody in there (and even perhaps a few passing people!).... I don't consider myself a 'nosy person, but it was hard not to witness this spectacle as this woman actually started shouting at the staff and making such a scene! I have to say at this point, the staff and management handled the situation amazingly! As I was sat next to this family, I also did note that the staff checked her food and one point, and offered to exchange anything she was not happy with (which she said not to bother), then she started screaming at the staff and generally acting crazy when it came to paying! The worse thing was, her husband, and children stood by and did not look embarrassed - or surprised - which did make me wonder if she performs this spectacle frequently in order to get away without paying!!
Apart from this, my meal, as always was delicious and the coffee was great as always. I'd like to say a big well done to the staff there for handling the situation so well, and that no one should have to deal with such aggression and anger. I will DEFINATELY be eating here again......just hopefully not anywhere near this crazy customer!!
