Stayed four nights with my family. Great hotel, great staff, great food.
Staff does really need a great pat on their backs, very professional, helpful and courteous.
One morning I was at breakfast when unfortunately the prima donna on an opposing table decided to chide the young waitress with some volume, and very theatricaly, over an alleged smeared plate. The waitress professionally dealt with the rude woman in a relaxed manner, whilst I wished that the complainant choked on her own sense of self importance.
The member of staff deserved a medal.

Just returned from a fantastic break at Saunton Sands. It is such a lovely relaxing hotel in a beautiful location. Our 2 teenage sons found loads to keep them occupied, tennis, squash, ping pong and surfing. We all enjoyed local walks and the indoor pool. The staff are excellent and very attentive making this a truly relaxing break. Can't wait to return.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms are a must!

My family stayed in one of the hotel apartments over Easter. The accommodation was lovely, very well looked after and suited three generations. The activities put on by the hotel for children were great and the beachside location was perfect for everyone (if a bit cold!).

My disappointment was with the food. The hotel requests that guests 'dress for dinner' so I was expecting the restaurant to be fabulous. The staff were very attentive but the food was pretentious and the menu doesn't change much. Being in Devon, I was expecting fabulous fish dishes but both the menu fish choices also contained meat or chicken. I eat neither.

Rather than try and be clever, the restaurant could just serve really simple dishes cooked really well. Actual rhubarb and custard, rather than a pyramid of rhubarb and custard flavour ice cream! It was fun the first day but a bit boring after a week! The meat eaters who had roast beef on Sunday said it was fabulous - really good ingredients cooked really simply - so they can do it!

As a family of four we have stayed in this hotel many times and have NEVER been let down by it! The location of the hotel is perfect for those of us who want to surf, but also provides numerous walks around the area, as well as the most beautiful scenery for dining we have ever had.
The staff are incredibly helpful, friendly and go out of their way to make your stay the best it can be.
The restaurant is AMAZING, the food is some of the best we have ever eaten. The choice is varied enough so that there is always something you want, however there isn't so much that you feel swamped. Every single dish was exceptional and the overall atmosphere in the restaurant is lovely.
The room that we stayed in was well equipped and had beautiful views. Everything you needed was provided and was of the highest quality, which really made our stay feel special. The beds were so comfortable, the sort where you fall asleep just sitting on one!
Finally the facilites. The pool is brilliant, although it was only March so it was a little cold to stay in the outdoor one for lobg. However the indoor pool is great, the spa is brilliant (we treated Dad to a massage for his birthday and he said it was incredible) and the rest of the facilites, including the evening entertainment were exceptional.

Overall, our favourite hotel in the whole of the UK :)

I had wanted to stay in this hotel for more than 40 years, but the occasion had not arisen. Then two old friends and I agreed to play some rounds of golf in North Devon. So I insisted we stay at this hotel, which is in a great location. The rooms, including breakfast were inexpensive, and the views across the beach compare with the best in the world. The reception staff are excellent, dealing with with every issue with politeness and humour. Unfortunately thereafter the hotel failed, for the meals, the breakfast and dinner cuisine was adequate, but certainly no better than the local golf courses where we played. The staff in the restaurant were either, surly, or inappropriately over familiar. In summary I felt that they were probably badly trained. Disappointing!

Room Tip: Ask for one with a beach view

We stayed in a sea view deluxe room with balcony for one night. We stayed one night (check in is 3pm) we didn't use the facilities such as swimming pools, spa etc. So this review is based on room and food, on a not so busy Sunday night, in March). An extra star may be given for the facilities, especially the outdoor pool in the summer (though we would be in the sea not the pool).

4 or even 5 stars would have been given if the hotel had taken into consideration it's environment (it doesnt fit in to the beautiful surroundings) and isn't at all the style expected of such an environment (surf/outdoor) - its more shirt and tie, which of course is fine but not very relaxed. The hotel doesn't appear to have a relationship with the beach, it's just very close to it.

Excellent: Views of course. The hotel is an eye sore from the beach but the views from it are of course amazing. (If the hotel wasn't positioned where it is I would have given 3 stars (though we wouldn't have visited had it not been on this beach).

Good: Food, clean hotel and friendly staff. We didn't try the restaurant food as we weren't prepared for the dress code, but the Lounge food was very good. Breakfast was ideal too - Buffet style hot and cold food.

Not so good: Lack of imagination with the decor and room set up. The balcony is small (too small to stretch legs in front of you) and no table for drink. The chairs on the balcony aren't comfortable. But the main noticeable issue was the lack of privacy when on the balcony. Had someone been on the balcony in the next room(s) they would have been sharing our holiday with us! A screen would help. The decor is a little odd, but it is clean.

In conclusion: This is a standard hotel positioned in a great place - you are paying premium for the position and views not the room. The views from the sea view rooms, lounge, restaurant (the beach side of the hotel) are great, though the design and setup of the room doesn't make the most of it. The position of the hotel is a great base for the Saunton beach and around the corner from Croyde. This was a luxury visit for us for the experience. But as the price didn't live up to the experience (you can still get the views without staying here) we prefer other options in this area which fit into the style and culture of the area.

This hotel is on one of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen. Our group had three of the apartments in this hotel and it was great. The beds were so comfortable, lovely bathrooms and nice sized front room and kitchen. It's very surfer friendly, so you can come and go all day in your wetsuit. The hotel is literally on the beach providing beautiful views and very easy access to the great waves at 6am (I don't know how I was persuaded into this!)

There was a wedding on the Saturday we were there and the staff were still very attentive. We were eating on the terrace and noting the cloud on the horizon (literally not metaphorically) they set up a table for our group of 14 inside for when we came running from the elements.

I also had a haircut in the salon here and the hairdresser was lovely so I'd highly recommend it.
