Having stayed here on many occasions over the last 20 years we returned once more.
I had read the recent reviews here and wondered if the hotel had slipped from its high standards.
We arrived in the middle of the night 2.00am and were warmly welcomed by the night porter and our luggage taken to our room.
We woke after a great night sleep to clear blue skies and golden sands. The bed in our family room was excellent comfy and big.
I can honestly say a saunton breakfast on the terrace is bettered no where in the world!
The staff were polite and friendly and at busy times there was a slight delay as one would expect.
The hotel has improved the evening dining experience and we enjoyed the restaurant offerings on the nights we dined at the hotel. Our cousins had an apartment and this wasto a high standard and all enjoyed a good nights sleep.
The hotel caters for families very well, the entertainment is excellent. two swimming pools both spotless, snooker, tennis. We have all enjoyed our time at the hotel and i am sure we will be back, dont be put off by the reviews on here Saunton sands is a fantastic hotel. If you are un happy a quite word to the great staff and if they can they will make it all ok. Ellie our waitress was excellent, as to the deputy manager who oversees the restaurant.
To all at Saunton thank you for a fabulous holiday.

Room Tip: dine on the terrace

We stayed from 29.06 - 10.07. After our initial overnight stay in room 333 (Inland view), in fact overlooking a red roof with the terrible noise of the swimming pool generator - we were able to move to a seaview room, which was excellent. I must point out that I had booked the inland view, but was not informed that it was a room with roof view and noise. I will not make that mistake again. Better to pay that bit extra! Everyone was very friendly, especially the Doormen, Magdalena in the restaurant and the wine waiters, but the restaurant/bar staff were falling over each other, during our second week, and we are still waiting for a cup of tea ordered the day before departure! I am a vegetarian, and the veggie food was not very good. I do have a small comment about the cleanliness of the room - I had to clean the kettle, telephone and TV remote control before using, also found some rubbish from previous occupants behind the corner chair!
Would recommend to people who like walking, and the sea.

Room Tip: Only book a seaview roomj

We do stay away quite alot as a family, this is the first time we have been to this hotel. We have previously stayed in another group hotel in Falmouth. After making the booking, I then read some reviews and was a little concerned about what we were going to experiance. But can I say this hotel was exactly, if not better then I had orginally expected, I feel the negitive element of reviews I read must have been written by people whom wanted money off or simply didnt get out enough. Compared to other establishments of this type it was excellent and I would not hesitate to recommed to friends and family and we will stay again. We stayed in a family room above the bar/resturant and were warned of possible excessive noise, this was no problem at all and didnt trouble any of us including our baby. I cannot comment on other types of accomodation as I did not experiance them, the service was always very good (especially welcoming Doorman). .The only one possible negitive point (if we had to make one) was that the water temp on shower didnt vary greatly, and clearer instruction on use would of been helpful. But compared to other hotels it was fine and prefectly adqaute for four of us to shower daily. The whole family enjoyed the stay greatly. We ate in the terrace room with the children and this was fairly priced and was good, a comfortable/ relaxed family space. Our one regret was we should have stayed around the hotel more and not rushed all over the area, we did go out and eat in a local pub one night (a mistake). The beach is lovely and coastline breath taking. Overall very good, we will return with others :)

The hotel has a wonderful location on a cliff top.The view from our room was fantastic overlooking the sea, beach and dunes. The room was sizeable for the UK, clean and was well equipped. The restaurant had a good table d`hote selection with additional grills if needed. Restaurant staff were friendly and made for a relaxed atmosphere. Expensive but so much better value than other hotels in the area. Easy to get to the wide beach where you can walk for miles, swim or surf.A great base for a north Devon/Somerset holiday

I stayed here with my wife on 1st and 2nd July on the midweek supersaver offer. The service was excellent and the staff very friendly and approachable. They found somewhere to store our bikes and were able to find us a table in the restaurant with a view. The room was a little cramped but overall we wer very pleased with the quality of the hotel and the food. Don`t order the most expensive brandy I heard a waiter tell a guest that it is over £100 per glass!

Room Tip: We had room 214 - maybe not the best

Another great stay we had a sea view room which was spotlessly clean with every thing you needed and very comfortable bed slept like a log. dinner was very good with a good choice and most of the food had been sourced locally and as farmers that is very important to us. only one little niggle you had to pay extra for smoked salmon with scrambled egg for breakfast and there was know porridge on the menu. The weather was dreadful but we still found plenty to do.The staff were all very happy and cheerful and always extremely helpful We will be back.

Staff are great, the location is great, the weather was brilliant, and it is only 15 min from Braunton.
Really enjoyed the evening meal every night - breakfast is less special.
If you're feeling energetic the footpath up the hill behind the hotel leads to more great views over N.Devon.

Room Tip: We chose not to spend extra for a seaview. Given the heatwave, the cooler side of the hotel might ha...
