“Fantastic dinner treat for fathers day”
Reviewed 15 June 2014

Excellent from when we arrived to when we left. We had been looking forward to bringing our family who haven't been before and thought that it was a perfect opportunity to do so for a pre Father's Day evening meal. Of course the weather played its part we had drinks on the terrace soaking in the sun the bar staff very all very friendly and the variety of drinks great my favourite being Hendricks gin and my dads real ales and lots of wines to choose from.
We were late sitting to our booked table but this was not an issue, we ate in the bistro which has been updated since we last visited very tastefully, the tables were all spotlessly clean. The choice on the menu as good as always too much to choose from I had mussels cooked classic style and duck for main. Being a large table I expected it to take a whole to serve but it was all very prompt. The staff were friendly professional but what we liked most of all was it was a relaxed sat night not a stuffy restaurant atmosphere which some May like but I find makes me feel awkward. My husband had surf and turf which he said was great it certainly looked it, large shell on prawns on top and my mum being more traditional in choice fish pie the children were all very content with their beef burgers and fish and chips sister and brother in law who are a little particular with what they like being in the industry themselves both had sea bass and were very complimentary. Only a couple of us had room for dessert I had local cheese. All in all a very good re visit, thank you for a lovely evening and keep up the good work we will definitely be back as soon as we can!

“Lovely setting shame about the food”
Reviewed 12 June 2014 via mobile

It was a gorgeous evening on the terrace with the sun setting slowly so what could be better. Well frankly the food. As the weather was so good the place was busy and clearly the staff couldn't cope. The food on the menu was also running out. I wanted mussels as a starter but they had run out so I ordered scallops in a lime, chilli and chorizo sauce garnished with green leave salad with a dressing. Well, the dish was tepid, the scallops were sandy and crunchy, the lettuce was limp and dry. All with no hint of lime or chilli. My partner had prawn cocktail with a long black hair on the pre buttered bread. On complaining we were handed cash back to the equivalent of the two dishes. The main courses weren't much better. Again barely warm, undercooked steak and my pork tenderloin steak was a mass of undercooked gristle. We didn't bother mentioning it because quite frankly the staff didn't care.

“A Happy Brithday!”
Reviewed 11 June 2014

We chose the Berry Head Hotel to host a relatives birthday party recently. We’re glad we did. We were given the library room, which is a lovely room with its own bar that opens onto the outside terrace and was perfect for our party of about 30 people.
We had live music from Southern Comfort, who we chose because they actually play at the Berry Head Hotel every Friday evening and were perfect for the occasion.
Food was buffet style and was very good and again was perfect for the occasion.
What really makes evenings like these though is the manner in which they are overseen and in Kay we had someone who is excellent at her job: Always there when needed without being intrusive and, most importantly, paying attention to detail (which is always the ingredient that makes these evenings go well) such as the cake with 31 lit candles being brought in an exactly the right moment and then making sure every guest was served a piece.
Well done Kay.
All in all, a lovely evening.
