Discovered this lovely little cafe in a tiny side street. Their gluten free sticky banana and pecan cake is amazing!

Tucked down a little alley way it would be easy to miss The Black Cat Cafe amidst the fish and chip takeaways of Brixham Harbour. We are so glad we popped in after spotting the sign on the final day of our holidays and enjoyed a relaxing, delicious lunch. If you're looking for something a little different, then this cafe is well worth a try. It is teeny - but the owner was very accommodating and arranged our table in the window so our 8 month old was happily tucked into a clean (it really does make such a difference) high chair facing out to spy on passers by. The menu was varied considering the small number of outdoor and indoor available tables. The food was freshly prepared and really tasty. Perfect portion size at a very reasonable price. Salad and veggie burger were followed by a homemade devonshire scone. Just perfect. Friendly owner who clearly enjoys cooking up yummy food for her customers. We would definitely return. Simple, honest food in a calming atmosphere. Wifi available and clearly encouraged - i'd have happily sat in there with a coffee all afternoon. Give it a go.

We visited based on the Trip Advisor ranking of #1 in Brixham. Instantly surprised that a café so small can make any profit.

Outside of the scope of the review, but very funny (demonstrating the "cosy" café), a rather pretentious party (mum speaking alternating French & English to the children loud enough to appreciate the gutturals in full glory) had to each order something with a change to the menu. Mum: vegetarian breakfast at 12:30 when the menu states an 11:30 cut off. The 3 year old had the fajita but it was easier to list the remaining ingredients rather than those left out. Dad was the cracker though. Having asked how the milkshakes were made (milk, vanilla ice cream and the fruit blended together) went on to request a strawberry milkshake without the fruit. Us and the couple next to us were in stitches. The waitress calmly explained that would be a vanilla milkshake at which point he changed his mind. A quip was made about ordering a no egg omelet - ha!

We only had tea & coffee but thoroughly enjoyed the visit.

We pop in to the Black cat to buy gluten free take away red velvet brownies which I pretend to my friends and family I have made myself! Other than that they are great for a great elevensies, snack lunch or scone or cake tea. Everything is properly home made so the portions are generous and tasty and the tea is properly hot!
