“Great location, friendly and helpful staff, good value.”

Brixham is a small and picturesque working fishing harbour. The Quayside occupies a position with a view over the harbour and across the Bay. Tip - make sure you get a harbour view room, there can't be many better located hotels in the South West.
It could do with a refurb, but it is clean and the room we had was spacious. I would definitely trade off some outdated wallpaper for the stunning views any day! And the staff were friendly in every department of the hotel. We had a wonderful stay and will definitely return. Just remember, this is not a business location and so should not be compared with business standard venues - this is a fishing village in Devon!

I have just returned from a stay at the Quayside Hotel. Myself and my wife have been staying there for many years. The staff and views are the hotels biggest asset. Have got to know staff and locals there over the years and always without exception they have added to the experience. Im saddened to say though that despite loving the Quayside hotel, there are some major problems now. Cleanliness in the rooms is not good. Hairs in the bathroom. You can see on the tiles where the cleaner can only reach so far. The dining room crockery is always dirty. Crumbs on the table and the floor. The couple next to us had a baby in a filthy high chair provided by the hotel. They seem to be cutting corners with cleaning staff. At the prices they are trying to charge, this is unacceptable. I will sadly have to think twice about spending almost £400 on a few nights away now. There are far cheaper places (some with better views) on the same street. Would still recommend it (just) but they must address these basic standards. Its a shame as they do pretty much everything else nicely.

Stayed at this hotel for 4 days last week. I think in the most expensive room with sea view, viewing balcony and costing Pound Sterling 122.00 /night.
View from the room was magnificent; overlooking Brixham harbour; best view i have had from any hotel room in UK
Room was generous size with a comfortabel bed and armchairs. Decor was a bit gloomy and dated though.
Bathroom was a good size and modern however the shower was next to useless. Must be the worst shower i have ever seen in a hotel. My polite comment about it when checking out seemed to fall on deaf ears.
Food and beer in the pub attached to the hotel was very good.
A couple of niggles though as follows.
1) Pound Sterling 122.00 / night and no Wi Fi !
2) A notice on the wall stating no takeways to be eaten in the room. At 122.00 /night i think that i decide what i do in the room.
3) A notice on reception to the effect that if you enjoyed your holiday you could leave some more money for the staff. That's just begging.
Overall a nice place to stay in a beautiful harbour town.

My husband and I drove past this hotel and as we had not booked a room in Brixham, popped in to ask if they had any available rooms. The receptionist was very helpful and offered me two rooms, a supierior or a standard. As it was late in the afternoon, we got the superior room ( no 2 ) at a very good price.
The room was not plush, but the view more than made up for the decor. It is one of the best views I have had from a hotel room ...home or abroad.

We did not eat in the restaurant, as we had eaten a large lunch, but it looked beautiful when we walked past. We did however have a few drinks in the pub attached. There was live music - which was very good and had a very good atmosphere.

There is also a little bar ( the mast bar - I think ) just off the reception which is very quaint. We purchased a drink to take up to the room at the end of the evening so we could sit at the window and enjoy the beautiful but peaceful setting of Brixham harbour. We did not have a balcony, but had a small table and chairs which were ideal to relax and take in the view.

Breakfast was delicious, waitress served - not the usual buffet.

All in all we enjoyed our nights stay at the Quayside Hotel and would stop there again, but only in a seaview room a real little gem !

We received a very friendly welcome from the reception staff. We had booked a superior 4-poster bedded room with balcony. The view over the harbour was breathtaking, although you pay for this with traffic noise. Our room (number 15) was of adequate size, although the bathroom was very small. It was generally clean, although the carpets throughout looks somewhat tired. The evening meal was good with very friendly service from Stefan our waiter. Breakfast was good, although the staff needed more attention to detail, having served us with coffee in a badly cracked & leaking pot. Parking must be mentioned as a potential problem in rainy weather. You can park immediately outside to load & unload but must then move the car to an isolated car park approx 350 yards from the hotel. If we had to visit Brixham again, we would certainly consider another booking at the Quayside.

  • Liked — The beautiful view

We stayed here over the Bank Holiday, May 2008. We booked a Harbour view room. £102 per night for the room including breakfast. Very poor value for money. The room, whilst having a great view, desperately needs a makeover and a little bit of upgrading. Cigarette burns on the bed covers and generally a bit tacky. Staff very friendly but this doesn't make up for the state of the bedrooms.

We were expecting something a little more comfortable with some added extras.

I wouldn't recommend The Quayside purely because of their charges - definitely not value for money.

We stayed in an inland room thinking that the photos on their website
looked quite nice and plush. We were wrong, when we were shown to our room we were disappointed to say the least. The decor was totally
different and very dated to what the photos depicted. Granted we made
quite a late booking so it wouldn't have been one of the best rooms but the standard and quality wasn't there. At least it was clean. Had
we known that this would be what we were getting we would have tried one of the B&Bs instead.

Also the room was baking hot although none of the radiators were turned on - don't know what caused this. Absolutely sweltering all night - pretty unbearable.

The bathroom - barely room to swing a cat. The bath was on one side of the 'room' with 2 feet of space next to it - it really was tiny! My partner and I are both slim but it still felt a bit claustrophobic.

For breakfast we had the full English, really nothing to write home about. The sausage that was included was disgusting - probably the worst cheapest processed sausage I've ever been served. I've stayed in cheaper hotels and been presented with better food than that.

Would I stay there again? Definitely not in the inland room we had and no for the quality of the breakfast, besides there's not much to do in Brixham for people in their late 20s / early 30s. The only highlights were the harbour at night with lights - looked quite picturesque and the nice restaurant (with bar) The Yard (or similar) that we found which was quieter than the ones directly on the harbour
on a busy Saturday evening.

  • Liked — the lounge and dining room were nicely decorated.
  • Disliked — Be warned that the standard of decor is not consistent throughout - so don't be misled.
