“Samford Guest House /The Fisherman's Cottage.”
Reviewed 24 July 2014

The location is perfect, central to all amenities with the benefit of parking. The Fisherman's cottage is linked via a kitchen door, to the main house. This affords the best of both worlds; having the extra space and privacy of this quirky accommodation , with the convenience of having a first class breakfast cooked for you! The facilities were very clean and tasteful with plenty of additional, caring thoughtfulness.
The food was extremely good and very well cooked. We did not need to eat lunch! Matthew and Rosie are lovely, knowledgeable hosts, polite, well mannered and good humoured. I think that it was good value for money too. The only cautionary advice that I would give, is to remember that Brixham is a working harbour, thus it can be noisy from an early hour in the morning. The seagulls are also quite loud, but again, this comes with being by the sea. I guess you need to balance this against the superb views, central location, great food and overall experience.: hence it still gets 5 stars. Thank you!

Room Tip: The Fisherman's cottage is great, but you must be careful if you are tall as my partner hit his...

We enjoyed a short break at the Sampford staying in a front room on the top floor which afforded excellent views across Brixham harbour and out to sea. The room was well furnished and comfortable with very good standard of tea/coffee tray and we were even supplied with wine glasses. Although we hadn't mentioned it at the time of booking it was my wife's birthday and having seen a few cards in the room, Rosie & Matthew presented my wife with a bottle of wine which we enjoyed sat in the window overlooking the harbour after an excellent night out in Brixham. The breakfast served by Rosie & Matthew is first class with an excellent choice of not only a traditional English breakfast but also fresh fruits/yogurts and preserves, a number of which are home made. Coming with its own parking space on the harbour is a real benefit, Rosie & Matthew were the perfect hosts and provided invaluable knowledge of the area.

This is a first class guest house. The welcome that you get from Rosie and Matthew is as good as you will get anywhere, they are truly superb hosts.Rosie cooks a fantastic breakfast, and the strawberry jam made by Matthew is the best. All in all if you go to Brixham this is the place to stay.We loved it and will be back.

Room Tip: front rooms have harbour view

This place is right next to the harbour and has one of the best views you could possibly find, we were made to feel very welcome and comfortable, room was very clean with everything you need, good parking and breakfast included in the very reasonable room rate. We'll definitely come here again!

Brixham is a place I visit when I need to get some head space. An old childhood haunt.

Rosie & Matthew run a superb house. Neither can do enough for you. £66 for one night was too cheap.

Great breakfast, great room, nice little touches run by people who clearly know their craft.

See you soon, I hope!

Our second visit to Fishermans Cottage next door to Sampford Guest House and as ever still outstanding. Rosie and Matthew greeted us so warmly and made us feel so welcome. The cottage had everything we needed for our short break. Adjoining door to Guest house ....Best breakfast EVER!!
Thank you ROSIE! Cooked to perfection!
Location is perfect...trips by boat to DARTMOUTH & Torquay and many more.
We so love Brixham and would highly recommend staying here.
We shall return .

Room Tip: Fisheroom cottage a MUST!
