We spent a week at Curlew 4 in August. First, the good points - the view is stunning! We spent a lot of time just watching the sea, with all variety of boats - fishing, speed, canoe, dinghy, cruise, jet ski, rowing - you name it! You can see right over to Torquay on clear days too. The apartment is beautifully furnished in a contemporary seaside/coastal theme, which we loved. Plenty of equipment in the kitchen, plus board games, DVDs, fishing nets and buckets and spades. The outside pool was a real bonus, but it needs a couple of benches to allow non-swimmers/adults to be able to watch the children and for you to leave towels. Also, a shower and changing room would be good too.
Now the not so good points - we arrived after the 3pm check-in time, after a long journey to find a car in our allocated parking space. We realised it was the cleaners' car, so after tracking them down, pointed out we needed the space to unload. They would not move their car and told us to wait! They said they didn't think parking was allocated, so I'm not sure why they thought each space was numbered!!! We couldn't locate our apartment, so asked these cleaners where it was, but one of them was extremely rude to us and laughed in our faces, implying we were really stupid. Not a good start to our holiday and not acceptable either.
Our parking space was very tight to get in and out of, and was near the top of a steep slope, so you might struggle if you have a large car. To reverse out of it, you need to watch you don't go over the edge of the path, down the steps, so it may be better to park in a visitors space in the lower car park, although this means a bit of a (uphill) hike to the apartment. The site and road in and out are like the rest of Brixham - hilly, narrow and steep. Our apartment had steps up to it too, so bear in mind if your mobility is limited.
All the apartments are close together and the internal walls are very thin - we could hear next door talking, their TV/radio, dogs barking, cupboards banging and toilet flushing!
Lastly, I'm not sure if the same cleaners were responsible for our apartment, but there were hairs left in the bathroom, and horrors of horrors, the previous occupants had left a used corn plaster on one of the sofas...

We stayed at this beautiful apartment for a week in April and were not disappointed.
Curlew 4, The Cove, is in a prime location overlooking Torbay and has the benefit of uninterrupted, stunning views from Fishcombe Cove, enabling you to watch both the weather and various boats coming in & going out of Brixham Harbour. Even on a dull day there is plenty to see. An additional bonus is that you can watch the sea from the living area and the main bedroom – what an amazing sight to wake up to, rain or shine – like being on a cruise without moving!
The apartment itself is spacious, modern and has everything you need to make for a comfortable stay. It’s light and airy and there’s plenty of room to relax with good facilities such as free unlimited Wifi, Sky TV and a DVD player. There are also flat screen TVs in each bedroom. It was spotlessly clean and has a well equipped kitchen providing a hob/oven, microwave and washing machine.
There are also thoughtful touches such as information about the local area and brochures about places to visit, plus essential details about the apartment itself.
There’s access to the large balcony from the living room and main bedroom where we found a gas BBQ, table and chairs to use in the warmer months. Whilst it wasn’t warm enough for us to take advantage of this it will be perfect for those long summer days!
There’s parking space for one car close to the apartment as well as additional parking near the main entrance; this is all secure and access is via a code.
The Cove is landscaped and paths lead down to Fishcombe Cove as well as to Battery Gardens – each giving access to paths that lead into Brixham itself. We walked into Brixham several times during our stay and took advantage of the many good restaurants to choose from (we tried the Lusty Wench and Beamers – both were excellent for fresh fish and locally sourced steaks).
The location of The Cove also provides a good base to many other nearby resorts and the Sea Train trip from Brixham Harbour to Dartmouth, Kingswear, Paignton and back is well worth doing on a sunny day. The close proximity to NT properties at Coleton Fishacre and Greenways is also an advantage.
We very much enjoyed our holiday in Curlew 4 and are already planning our next visit!
