I have to say one of the nicest B&B's I've sayed in for a long time. The old building really gives you a country feel and the really nice nice gardens around the property and loverly. The breakfast was equally as good with really fresh seasonal fruit and my favourite raspberries. They do cooked breakfast too but I had to leave really early in the morning but they made sure they had some breakfast out for me in the morning before I left.

We stayed at Gages Mill Country Guest House for one night in May. The guest house is a converted 500 year old woollen mill about 1 mile from the Ashburton village in a quiet rural setting with a large garden. It has a lounge but no bar or restaurant. Full English breakfast was included in the tarriff of 85 pounds per night. We stayed in room 4 on the first floor which was spacious with views over the garden. Kate and Nathan provided a friendly welcome. The ensuite bathroom was spacious by English standards. Parking is free on site. Ashburton is a large picturesque village with a number of antique and decorative furniture shops and the nearby Buckfast Abbey and monastery, established 1000 years ago by the Benedictines, is a local attraction (Admission is free!). Dartmoor Lodge pub/restaurant is a 3 minute walk from Gages Mill and there are a number of restaurants and pubs within a 5 minute drive in the town. Dining at Dartmoor Lodge is very good and is recommended.

Hello Nicolinter. Many thanks for taking the time to write this review and for the 5 star rating. We have been here for three seasons now and the vast majority of feedback is 100% positive. However, as with everything, Gages Mill isn't perfect and we want to be upfront about the niggles that people have occasional raised. As we are on a borehole (not mains water) we have a gravity fed water system which will not cope with the demands of power showers (these use as much water as a bath). We have installed top of the range Mira showers specifically designed to maximise pressure / water flow from gravity fed systems. The showers are good, but not power showers. During the summer months, when the weather is warmer, the nights can be very still and people have bedroom windows open at night, we do, on occasion, have people comment that they have heard some road noise - and we agree, this can happen. With windows closed you do not hear the road. These are things we took into consideration when we purchased Gages Mill. We, like you, found these to be very minor issues which were easily outweighed by the benefits of Gages Mills location and environment. That said, if you are looking for a place to stay that specifically has power showers then Gages Mill is not that place. Likewise, if some distant road noise could be a problem then please be aware that there could be some on some occasions - but to have less road noise would probably mean staying at a more remote location which would not be within such easy walking distance of Ashburton.

Kate and Nathan were very friendly, and a welcome change from the B&B we had just vacated in Buckfastleigh. Room was totally satisfactory, with peaceful views from the windows and pleasant walk-around area outside. Would love to return.

Stayed 3 nights here, and have nothing but praise for Kate and Nathans B and B.
The room was very comfortable with a lovely view over the countryside. Breakfasts were excellent.
The warm and genuine welcome from Kate and Nathan was the icing on the cake. Special mention to Zoe as well who was doing an excellent job of helping out over a busy weekend.
Sadly the weather wasn't on our side but if it had been the lovely gardens would have been perfect for enjoying a bottle of wine!
Kate was also very kind in posting an item we had left behind in the room on to us.
Our first choice for accomodation when we pass this way again.

This is a lovely lovely B&B. The gardens are absolutely beautiful. We woke up each morning to see a variety of birds from our window including a woodpecker. Kate and Nathan who run it are incredibly friendly and make you feel so welcome.
The breakfast was delicious and it was lovely to have the option of scrambled egg with smoked salmon if we didn't want a full English. Also fruit salad, toast and cereals. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits in our room were a nice touch. The rooms were a little bit twee for our taste and the shower could have been more powerful, but it was still delightful. We've been to Ashburton a lot and this is definately one of the nicest places to stay.

Every year my wife and i with her sister and hubby have a short break away. After a lot of internet searching and came across Gages Mill. I was impressed by the AA 4 star rating so decided to book 3 nights at the end of October. The welcome, friendliness of Kate and Nathan and the superb accomodation deserve the 4 star rating. Breakfast is everything you want and there is use of a large lounge area with TV etc for evenings if you aren't going out. We added an extra evening to our stay as we enjoyed ourselves so much. Totally recommend this 'little gem' in Devon. Thanks Kate & Nathan for making our stay the best.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the main entrance are quieter.

I come to Ashburton from London every week or every other week for business. Have been doing this since August. Was looking for a nice place to stay and stumbled across Kate and Nathan's Gages Mill on Google. All I can say is WOW what a find!

It is situated about a mile outside Ashburton and just a few hundred yards further on from Dartmoor Lodge. There are about 7-8 rooms of reasonable size and all ensuite.

Breakfast is really good and I have tried about 10 different b&b's in the area. For about £55 a night you cannot go wrong.

Would stay here again and again, and i do!! Last stay was 17th-20th October.

Thanks.
Jonny, London.
