The Lavender House Hotel, has breathtaking views and stunning gardens, this nearly makes up for the hostile manager, staff, and poor quality expensive food and drink. I would not recommend this venue, as the grumpy staff ruined our visit.

Booked via KGB has was an ideal location to meet up with a friend who lives in Exeter and didn't really investigate. No need as was by far the best we have stayed in with one of either groupon or kgb the last time we went via groupn to a hotel in Scotland (Portnonchon) we left after one night! so we were a little apprehensive. Located just outside Ashburton with no real passing traffic and an ideal location to relax and un wind. Keith, Carol and their staff were absolutely fantastic could not do enough for you. Cant find anything to complain about to be honest no matter how hard I try. Will definitely be going again and would highly recommend. Albeit primarily for weddings Thursday through to Sunday Mon to Weds suied us just fine. Can only imagine what a great place to get married.

We stayed here via a KGB deal and were impressed as soon as we arrived. Carol and Keith are very friendly as are the rest of their team. We had dinner there on the first night and the food was really excellent and served to perfection. Breakfasts are huge and again cooked perfectly. Our bed was very comfortable and the room clean. We will stay again and it's worth every penny, even without a deal. Thanks. Rich and Trish Sargent (+Ben)

My Wife and I, were very lucky to take up an offer via groupon, of 2 nights B&B and a 3 course meal at this lovely place. we most certainly hit the jackpot on hotel, location, excellent food and choice, value for money and most importantly a lovely welcome and superb service from Keith, Carol, Andy and Louise who found nothing a problem to provide. We stayed in room 7, which is very comfortable and with stunning views. We had such a pleasant stay, that we have already booked a return visit, and will be making more, in the near future with family & friends. Dont let the negative reviews put you off, as everywhere you go there will be room for improvement, but on all the things that matter, This place is'nt broke, and certainly doesnt need fixing. It's our new home from home. Enjoy

We stayed here recently after receiving a gift of a voucher for two nights from our daughter, our other daughter added on a third night and we were so pleased she did. Our room was very comfy, and the atmosphere throughout the hotel was very friendly. The meals were amazing, both in conntent and size. We can thoroughly recommend the hot brownie with champagne ice-cream for dessert! The extensive garden had an aviary, dove cotes and picruresque views, I can see why couples choose this venue for their weddings.
We said we should like to return and I have just bought another voucher and we will be back in September - can't wait.

We stayed here for 2 nights - 30 June/01 July - on a Groupon deal. From the moment Carol booked us in, we were made to feel very relaxed and welcome. Nothing was too much trouble and she took time to tell us about the hotel's history, which we found very interesting.

Our room was adequate in size for our stay - plenty of storage made up for some lack of floor area (for bags etc) - and was pleasantly decorated. Yes, there are things which could be made better (a wonky toilet brush holder, a toilet seat which wouldn't stay up, some corners which could do with redecorating), but in no way do these things detract from the warmth and comfort of the hotel as a whole. A good sized en-suite and a beautifully powerful shower added to the comfort.

The gardens are beautifully kept and we were able to sit outside and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

The meal we had on the first night (part of the deal) was excellent - very generous proportions well cooked and presented with choices to suit most tastes. We enjoyed it so much that we also had a meal on the second evening - considering the quality and quantity it was very reasonably priced. Likewise the breakfast was everything you could want.

All in all, a very well run hotel which we would have no hesitation in recommending, run extremely well by the lovely Carol & Keith who made our stay very special. We will certainly be returning.

Room Tip: Room 11 is on a slight slant - part of its 'rustic charm' but a little disconcerting to sta...
