We recently went to a wedding here and although the hotel was in lovely settings and our room was extremely comfortable it was dreadfully disorganised, the registrar conducting the wedding failed to turn up even though we were told that she was running 20 minutes late this we accepted as the weather was appalling but she never did show. Very upsetting all round but the party went on and the bride was beautiful.

We thank you for the good comments. Unfortunately all the confusions was caused by the fact that the bride and groom had failed to book the registrar, which is not legally possible or the responsibility of the venue to do so.

Many thanks

Arrived at the Lavender House Hotel on Sunday evening 29th September for two nights. We went into reception and then into the bar and met Ruth who was serving. We thought she lacked a welcoming smile but was somewhat helpful. Our room was nice and clean and shower very easy to regulate.. As the last bookings for the restaurant did not give us enough time we set off for Newton Abbot and found a very nice inn to eat.

On Monday morning we met Carol who was very helpful regarding information of where to visit etc. Breakfast was nice but I agree with others maybe there could be more selection of fruit. However, for the kgb voucher price this hotel was very good value. We travelled into Dartmouth and Paignton on the Monday and eat again at the inn we found on the way back.

Tuesday morning we met Keith, a real character!! Again a very nice breakfast and we chatted to Keith afterwards before leaving. It appeared that Carol and Keith are extreme animal lovers as they have taken in many rescues. They also raise a lot of money for animal charities and other charities such as air ambulance with various events and seem to be very kind people (not just there to make money!!) The gardens looked very nice but the weather was not good so didn't show them at their best. We would certainly stay there again and the lady doing the rooms was very helpful regarding more supplies for the room. The main restaurant did look nice and if we went again we would eat there.

My wife & I stayed at the hotel for 2 days in July & it far exceeded our expectations.
Our room was very clean, recently decorated & had a very comfortable super King!!
Upon our arrival, we met the owners Carol & Keith. They were very welcoming & made us feel as though we were members of the family.
We went out into the gardens & it certainly had the 'wow' factor. We sat on a decking area drinking Pimms & the views of the Devon countryside all around was simply stunning!!
We had dinner in the hotel the first night & it was all cooked perfectly.
Breakfast was just amazing!! We had a choice of where we sat & could have what we wanted & as much as you like.

The hotel's right on the edge of Dartmoor & is ideally placed for exploring Devon.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay & would certainly recommend it.

Carol & Keith made us feel as though we were staying with them in their lovely home!! We'll definitely be coming back.

Many thanks,
Becky & Gary Jay

Recently went to a wedding here...never again! Not only was it disorganised, but when the registrar failed to turn up (still not sure who was at fault) the owner was very rude to several guests. Next came the food...I have never left a whole plate of food, but I did this time. A piece of over cooked frozen cod was plonked on top of a large dollop of pureed sweet potato (at least that is what I think it was). The following morning, we preceded to have breakfast...although nobody told us where it would be served, nor what time; we eventually found it, when nobody came to our table we went to the bar to order, only to be told to sit back down (not in the friendliest of manors either). When the food arrived, 20minutes later it was so salty my tongue was zinging and although very very hungry was unable to eat it. All in all, I hope I never have to set foot there again.

We find it hard to understand how you could not find your way to the breakfast room as all of
The other doors were locked off the only door open was the door to the breakfast room where everyone else found it no problem, with regards to the registrar it is the bride and grooms legal response ability to book the registrar it is not possible for the venue to carry out this booking although a handful of guest we're blaming the venue for the situation, the bride and groom apologised for the mistake and the fact they had a wonderful day. And find it strange that you were not satisfied with the wedding breakfast or breakfast as everyone else compliments us on our food and breakfasts and we had no complaints no the day.

Stayed for 2 nights on a voucher which included 1 dinner. Room was okay but shower area needs renovating as it is badly stained and our room was not cleaned at all on our full day there. At our included dinner we were served our mains without vegetables. When asked where are the veg the waitress replied "The chef forgot to put them in the microwave and they,ll be here soon." By the time they arrived we had finished most of our meat and potatoes. We had to laugh how honest she was. Breakfast was good value with good choices. Overall, it was okay but not worth the advertised full price.
