“Fantastic Break”
Reviewed 8 October 2011

Wow what a nice place to stay, breakfast was to die for all fresh locally produced fare served impeccably, Room was more hotel than b&b in standard but still retained the homely feel.Wish it was colder as the traditional woodburning fires in the bar and dining rooms were very inviting, would be worth a return visit just to sit by the fires! Whilst visiting went for walks on dartmoor amazing scenery and very lucky with weather, I would rate this 5star.

Room Tip: All rooms good, best room for couple Lydford with ensuite, Best family room(hard choice) would be Mel...

Clean, comfortable, and very attractive b&b in a pretty village near the wonderful Lydford Gorge and Dartmoor. Steve gave my daughter and me great advice on navigating our walk and even lent me a walking pole. Daphne was super-friendly and even threw some of our laundry in with her own--really helpful when you're travelling! I never had the feeling you get in some b&b places that they'd really rather you weren't underfoot. Breakfast was also very good. In all, a great experience and terrific value.

Stayed here for one night prior to a business meeting the next day. Steve and Daphne are very good hosts and its a very relaxing place to stay. Great countryside right outside and a decent pub up the road for a pint and evening meal. All very friendly. Breakfast very good too!

I stayed at the Royal Oak when on a cycling trip with a friend.
We were delighted with the friendly and helpful way Daphne and Steve looked after us. Steve took care of our bikes, locking them away overnight and made sure we were able to enjoy the use of the pool table and bar when we returned from the nearby pub.
The bedroom was light and airy and the beds spotless and extremely comfortable; the bathroom was spacious and the bath extremely welcome after a day's cycling. Our breakfast was excellent and throughout we felt nothing was too much trouble for them.

We were doing the Devon coast to coast cycle ride and it is literally 10m off the route in the village of Bridestowe. Stephen and Daphne were extremely friendly and helpful. The room was beautiful and spacious and the breakfast was excellent. Would highly recommend to anyone doing the Devon cycle route or looking for somewhere to stay for access to Dartmoor.

Incredibly handy for the nearby dartmoor national park, this B&B is one of the best i've stayed in recently. The location is just excellent. Very clean and tidy, good facilities and a lovely cooked breakfast. The owners were very friendly, ensuring we were made to feel as comfortable as possible. I'll be using this B&B again and hopefully next tiem I'll shoot some pool on the free table downstairs.
