Pretty looking place down a country lane. What a shame the bedroom windows didn't fit so the smells and noise of the kitchen fan below permeate the bedroom. Whole place could do with a makeover. Food was ok.

We stayed for one night at the Tradesmans Arms pub and enjoyed our stay. We had a ‘compact’ double room. Although the room is small and has limited storage, it was fine for our needs but you would probably want the larger size double room that they have if staying for longer. The room was clean, had great views and had the usual extras such as tea and coffee making facilities. The pub is in a great location on the fringe of Dartmoor National Park. The roads leading up to the pub are certainly narrow and the village the pub is situated in is very small so you do feel like you are in the middle of nowhere which we liked.

We had food in the pub too, which was good value and quality. There was good choice for breakfast and the food was tasty. The views from the restaurant area were great too. If we were to go back to Dartmoor, we would certainly stay here again.

Room Tip: We had room 2. The view was great but it is over the kitchen so you can hear the extractor fan. We t...

Had dinner at the Arms recently on a Sunday evening.
I stayed at the Barn, the Tradesman's Arms is literally 2 mins walk.

I didn't have warmest of welcome by the younger waitress but the more mature front of house lady was very pleasant.
I ordered the crab cakes for starters and the the lamb shank for main.
The food was was served promptly.
The crab cakes were delicious and the lamb shank was generously served with mash and vegetables. The lamb was falling off the bones just the way I like it.
I enjoyed the food.

The only negative was there were a few flies but I was seated close to the door.

Lovely place to stay and get away from it all.
Rooms are clean and tidy, food is excellent, the staff are friendly and the atmosphere in the bar is what you'd expect in a pleasant country village.
We had room 4 in the attic, was great especially with our 2 kids, ok we all banged our heads a few times but the place was really great, we'll be back again soon no doubt......

Visited the local pub this evening with our two sons. The food was standard pub fare - we had lamb shanks, and our sons had scampi. Although there is no children's menu, the landlady offered us small portions of a selection of the dishes on offer, which was fine by us! Good size portions, well presented, and promptly served. Very tasty, would recommend.

August 2013. Their web site said that rooms had views over the valley - ours had a view of the hedge across the road! I think rooms 1 & 2 would have a nice view but they would be near the smell and noise from the kitchen extractor fan. There was a lot of noise coming from the dairy farm directly next door which obviously the hotel cannot be responsible for, so no point in complaining but be aware of this if you book room 3 which is the nearest! There was noise that sounded like a big fridge going on and off all night and early in the morning people were shouting to each other to make themselves heard above the noise (and arguing). The milk lorry left his radio going (and his engine) whilst parked outside for some time. It would probably be ok in the winter with the windows shut though. It was very noisy on Thursday night (quiz night) but that is to be expected above a pub. We didn't ask to move as it became apparent at breakfast that all of the rooms were occupied. The room was an odd shape and the twin beds were about 6 feet apart with a table built into the wall. The TV was tiny but then you don't go away to watch TV! On the plus side, the staff were friendly and helpful, the whole place was clean and the food was great! The pub was very busy every night and we had a job to park sometimes, so it's obviously popular because of the food.

Room Tip: Chose 1 or 2 if you want a view
