“A Great Place For A Beautiful, Quiet & Peaceful Stay”
Reviewed 13 July 2014

Spent two nights here last week. The Chef ‘Jack’ has produced a varied and tasty Menu which was superb and is obviously popular with the locals due to the number of them who chose to eat here. The best Desert ‘Cheese board’ selection ever! Loads of Cheese and Biscuits with a tasty Chutney at such a reasonable price. Really good value for money. Room was clean and had everything we wanted in it. There was a Flat screen TV, Tea/Coffee making facilities, lovely big shower, and great views over the hills from our window. We were there on a Thursday (Quiz Night) and were asked if we would like to join in made to feel welcome. Good selection of 'Real Ales' at the Bar. This is such a lovely quiet and peaceful location that’s worth spending the time to seek out. Many thanks Mark for a great stay and for all your advice, and best wishes for your future plans.

The Tradesman's Arms is a lovely country pub, specialising in fabulous food which is really popular with locals and visitors from further afield. We ate here on both nights we stayed because the food was so good. Accompanying vegetable dishes were way superior to the norm. Pies huge and so tasty. Now, back to the location. The back of the pub overlooks a valley where cows graze, swallows nest, buzzards hunt (yes, we saw one) and you can't help but fall in love with Dartmoor. Next door is a farm (of the not noisy kind, unless you object to cows mooing). It made it all the better for us as there were chickens wandering around on the corner of the road and the farm dog asleep in the road the second day. Perfect! Mark and all the staff were great and I can highly recommend the family suite on the top floor. Spacious, clean and homely with fabulous views out over the valley. Made this birthday surprise really special, thanks Mark.

Room Tip: Book the suite on the top floor, it's beautiful and spacious.

What a lovely place. We were here for our honeymoon and we were not disappointed. We arrived to find a bottle of bubbly in our room (which I knew about but not the wife!), and that was a really nice touch. The staff were friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The food was fab, and I must say that the portions were massive, and that goes for breakfasts and evening meals. The room where we stopped was on the top floor, and the views were nice. One small tip - if you are on the tall side mind your head! That aside, we had a very enjoyable stay.

Fantastic stay! Staff were friendly and welcoming. The surroundings were breathtaking and the food was scrumptious! Was nice to escape from the city. Relaxing and peacefull. Was a little pricey but we booked last minute. Would defiantly stay again!

What a little gem, we booked very late in the week and the only room left was the "compact" double, but it was adequate for the one night, the television struggled on certain channels but Hey, we were on Dartmore. The showers one of the largest I have ever used. Staff very friendly, Food EXCELLENT both in the evening and also at breakfast, We have never stayed at a pub before, where all we had to do was walk upstairs at the end of the night.certainly wouldnt hesitate to return.

My 12 year old daughter and I stayed here for 3 nights in Feb half term. We chose it because it's just up the road from friends we were visiting. I wasn't expecting much but I was really pleasantly surprised. We were in the 'suite' on the top floor which gave us privacy and distance from any pub noise. We had a fab bedroom, a large lounge area with futons that change to beds and a wee bathroom with shower and bath. View was absolutely stunning and the staff were friendly but not over imposing. Breakkie wasn't too early (9ish) and was gorgeous. Good set up for a day out on the moors! Will def stay again!

Wonderful peaceful location and despite atrocious weather on our first night which resulted in a 40 minute power cut the valentine set menu was superb. We stayed in the top floor suite which was adequate without being spectacular. Could do with some homely touches to give it the excellent rating, the restricted headroom could also be an issue for some. A word on the shower cubicle! If you are over 5ft 6 ins tall, have a bath! If its a hearty breakfast you want to set you up for the day you can certainly get it here and the other evening meal we had was also to a high standard. The bar/ restaurant area is clean comfortable and a pleasant spot to spend a couple of hours and the hosts were extremely friendly.

Room Tip: Room 4 suite is not for the very tall.
