Owner description: We are a small, friendly and very different visit for all the family. Run by a small dedicated team we aim to make your visit educational and fun. You can enjoy and learn about our tropical butterflies in the specially designed habitat of which you become part. You not only see the butterflies but feel the rainforest atmosphere that they enjoy as you see their amazing life cycle unfold. In the Otter Sanctuary there are three species of otter to see, our native British otter, the playful Asian short clawed otters and the large North American river otters who love to show off. Our keeper is on hand to explain all about the otters to visitors, some are here for breeding, some for retirement, some just for fun and some because they are unsuitable to be returned to the wild.Make sure to bring your camera.

We decided to visit the Butterfly, otter sanctuary, rare breeds farm and heritage steam railway because it offers a superb day out and great value for money. We had lunch at the railway cafe, which was excellent and afternoon tea at the rare breeds farm which was truly outstanding. Helpful knowledgable and very friendly staff. An excellent full day out.

Went here with the girlfriend today and had a lovely time and a cracking little set up. Tim is clearly very knowledgable and passionate about Otters and is happy to impart his understanding to everyone who is around, and has a fantastic rapport with the Otters.
Overall, I would have to say that the highlight is feeding time and the interaction between Tim and the Otters is something to behold. A wonderful lovely trip out and can't recommend it enough.

Had a lovely family day here. The talks from Tim during the otter feeding were a highlight and the ethos of the place was emphasised aswell as there being lots to learn about each character. My daughter fell in love with Mr Squeak.
The butterflies were beautiful and it was great to see some emerging. Terrapins were fun to watch too and the leafcutter ant display is really good.
Knowing that some of your money goes towards conservation and important work adds even more value and the location of this attraction with plenty of other things nearby is ideal. We took a picnic and enjoyed watching the trains go by.

We went here on the way elsewhere after seeing the signs on the way. It was an extremely busy day with a combined event with the stream trains. What we found was a small but perfectly formed butterfly and otter sanctuary.

The butterfly bit was quite exciting. It was a perfect time of year to see some starting to hatch and since that were so big they looked like fakes. ... Until they flew Jay over your head.

The otter bit was fantastic as we were there for feeding, which I would really recommend. We were given a lot of information about the various otters and the sanctuary itself. Watched those having an otter experience feed them. Overall it was a pretty good way of spending a few hours.

Thank you very much. I would heartily recommend it.

We came across this wonderful sanctuary by accident and I'm so glad we did.
We got to watch various otters being fed and their keeper was friendly, informative and obviously loves his job. In fact everyone who we met there were happy and friendly. Why wouldn't you be if you work helping otters all day!
Thanks for the experience!
