Owner description: We are a small, friendly and very different visit for all the family. Run by a small dedicated team we aim to make your visit educational and fun. You can enjoy and learn about our tropical butterflies in the specially designed habitat of which you become part. You not only see the butterflies but feel the rainforest atmosphere that they enjoy as you see their amazing life cycle unfold. In the Otter Sanctuary there are three species of otter to see, our native British otter, the playful Asian short clawed otters and the large North American river otters who love to show off. Our keeper is on hand to explain all about the otters to visitors, some are here for breeding, some for retirement, some just for fun and some because they are unsuitable to be returned to the wild.Make sure to bring your camera.

“Lovely day out”
Reviewed 6 August 2014

We spent a lot more time here than we thought we would. The butterfly house was gorgeous and a lot of butterflies were just emerging from their cocoons which was lovely to see. Also we were there for the otter feeding and although it was busy we could see and hear everything and it was very informative and interesting. It was a nice bonus that the ticket allowed you to 'come and go' so we were able to leave for a while to get something to eat and then return again later.

“Tim and otters (Splash, Mr & Mrs Squeek, Rocky, Sammy, Teagan, Jasmin & Felix)”
Reviewed 6 August 2014

What a great day! A lovely otter experience with Tim and the otters. Tim was great in showing us around, allowing us the full ottery experience from helping the otters change their bedding, to making sure their ponds were all clean and healthy. Lots of hands on work, which culminated with feeding the otters, with lots of time for discussion and photographs.

A day I will always remember.

Thanks Tim and the otters (especially Mr & Mrs Squeeks who are otterly adorable)

A fantastic day was had by all the family (5th aug) watching the otters, Tim certainly makes the experience, his knowledge and passion is very clear to see. Tim is happy to talk otters all day answering any questions you have. Well worth a visit but make sure you see the feeding display

“Delightful........”
Reviewed 6 August 2014 via mobile

We arrived just in time to see the otters have their two o'clock feed. Tim is so obviously devoted to his charges. His talk was entertaining and informative. The otters just lived showing off. We had two of our granddaughters with us, aged 7 and 9, and they we enthralled by the otters and did not want to come away. It was nice to learn that their numbers are improving. 30 years ago when we were last in the area the otters were under threat and it was very rare to see one.
The butterfly house was another great attraction especially as one butterfly landed on the girls' hands.
The sanctuary is doing so much good, please visit when you are in the area.
One word of warning though - they do feed the otters with dead chicks. This is what they would eat in the wild so before you go 'ugh' put things into perspective.

“Interesting”
Reviewed 6 August 2014

Took my 10 year old granddaughter, and she loved it. It was far more interesting than I thought it would be, with the most amazing tropical butterflies flying around. The otters were lovely too.
