We were in this area to have lunch at Gidleigh Park and couldn't afford to stay there, so found this local B&B in the neighbouring town of Chagford.

From the moment we arrived we were welcomed like old friends, by the owner's son and their friendly golden retriever. Their cat watched on but seemed more concentrated on the rabbits in the garden !

Our room was amazing. Four-poster bed with deluxe furniture and fixings. Lovely view as well. The bathroom was equally opulent with a large bath and very well fitted out.

We needed a taxi so the owner's son rang round local companies for us. There were several local weddings that weekend, so many were booked up, but he managed to get someone to fit us in at short notice which was much appreciated. Really cheap fare as well and he made time to pick us up after our evening meal as well, which was great. We didn't need to worry about a thing during our stay essentially.

Breakfast was fantastic. A big hearty full English with all the trimmings and several home-made items the owner proudly offered us. We left full and very happy and couldn't recommend this place enough to anyone going to Gidleigh Park, travelling round Dartmoor or just stopping by. Wonderful all round.

Room Tip: All the rooms are great !

We were staying for two days and it was just great. Besides the warm welcome of their lovely "blonde girl" :) the owners were very friendly, helped us out by lending the right clothes for every weather and gave great hints what to do in the surrounding area. Walking/Hiking tours can be found just around the corner, or drive through the national park by car (as we did), stop by some places, walk there and have a look around ist also a good option.
The nearest town (Chagford) was about a 15-20 minutes walk from the B&B, but you could easily order a taxi. Besides we do enjoy walking and didn't consider a little walk before/after dinner as a problem at all.
The room was comfortable and the breakfast was a good start into the day, often underlined by good musical rhythms.
We found that the Highbury B&B was a perfect place to explore Dartmoor and we'd highly recommend to stay there.

Thank you John and Jenny!
