“Brilliant time”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 June 2014

Just got back from a fantastic week at Finlake staying in Lodge 58, could not fault the accommodation, spotless clean, fully fitted kitchen with dishwasher, fridge freezer and washer drier, most comfy bed I have ever slept in, a sauna, TV's in lounge and bedroom with a great choice of channels, it was really good to sit in the hot tub whilst watching the squirrels and birds.
Had a great day fishing in the lake, caught over 40 fish in a few hours, at at the Retreat restaurant several times food was very tasty and reasonably priced, will be back again in September, can't wait, I have just one bit of advice, the lake rules are very good but I would add one thing, I found lots of discarded line which could trap birds so perhaps a mention on the notice hoard could be added to take home any unwanted line.

Thank you for your review we are delighted that you enjoyed your stay and had a fruitful time fishing on the park lakes.

We appreciate your expertise and observations regarding the disused line we certainly would not wish for any of the wildlife to become entwined.

We look forwards to seeing you again in September.

Situated just outside the village of Chudleigh is the fabulous holiday park of Finlake Lodges. As you drive through you the entrance you think that you are entering a stately home, beautifully manicured parkland, sympathetically planted with trees and shrubs. Go on from the reception area, after 'booking in' down through the woods where there are beautiful Scandinavian style Log Cabins dotted between the trees. It looks likes a 'fairyland' from the road above. Then on through the next complex, swimming pools, fitness centre, restaurant and bar, shop etc and a large car parking area, on yet further to the Lodges set in groups of about a dozen or so in little park areas and to the main Lodge area several rows of 20 or so lodges leading down to 2 lakes. The first and largest carries a good head of Carp and Bream with Tench, Roach and Rudd and the usual Skimmers. The small lake has mainly Carp and Tench. Take your own bait as the nearest is in Newton Abbot some 5 miles away, 5 miles in the opposite direction is the pretty seaside town of Dawlish.
The accommodation is First Class and absolutely 'Spotless'. Well laid out .Fabulous Lounge with double doors opening onto a decked area which goes around 3 sides of the lodge. A kitchen with the usual mod cons through to Bedroom One with twin beds, bathroom opposite. Bedroom 2 has a good double with en suite shower and wc. Yes really good accommodation. Well worth a second visit.

Our family have just returned from a 3 night break. Had a lovely times, positive points. We had lovely sunny weather for the whole duration of our stay so that made it even better. Clean equipped accommodation, beautiful setting, relaxing, helpful staff. Lovely pool. Negative points, we could not get into property until 4pm, on the Friday, so not enough time to use the pool, therefore booking Friday leaving Monday, you have to hand keys back at 10pm on Monday this only really gives you two days of activities, if arrival was 2pm Friday, would be better and feel like a longer stay, rather then a very quick one. By the time we got to the pool on Friday in very hot sunny weather it was closed so had to use the indoor highly Chlorine pool. The restaurant after booking and arriving at 7.30 we were told that they could not take orders until 8pm, this meant that we did not get served food until 8.35, although staff helpful there was no real explanation for this, the restaurant was not particularly busy. We felt that the outside pool was not really big enough to accommodate the people trying to use the facility. In regards to the restaurant and in general it took far to long to get served and for the food to arrive, at one point asking for tomato ketchup for my daughter which arrived almost 10 minutes later. Not good. The fire alarms in the lodges are so finely tuned that they go off on a hairtrigger thus making it almost impossible to cook anything, with it going off constantly, you could hear others lodges with their daily breakfast routine with a symphony of fire larms. This was extremely annoying and in the end we did not cook anything like bacon, sausages or used the oven because of this!!! Finlake has the potential to be absolutely fantastic, just a few minor hitches but im sure you want feedback to improve.

Have just returned from a weekend break - and stayed in Lodge 26. Whilst I am a strong believer in getting what you pay for - for 3 nights this was still £299 - and for that I would have expected a lot more. This lodge just had the feel about it of THE lodge for discounted weekend breaks! It definitely needed a thorough cleaning inside and out. I could see that someone had been cleaning in the shower room as they had left their damp cleaning cloth under the chair! There were dust balls and large cobwebs between the cladding inside - and the balcony was covered in cobwebs. I'm not a clean-freak - but finding someone else's hair in the shower tray and under the sheets in my bed ??- YUK! My daughter's bedding had bloodstains on it! Come on!! In one of the wardrobes we found a discarded empty box. The main window in the lounge didn't shut properly, but then the 2nd window in the main bedroom didn't open! The oven door mechanism is broken - so you open it up and it drops to the floor (or my partner's big toe in our case - boy did he cuss). The outside light on the balcony didn't work - the 2 bedside lights in the main bedroom didn't work either. The dining table and cutlery were filthy too, And finally, the double glazing panels at the rear of the lodge had been comprised so you couldn't even see through them on account of the collected condensation. The whole lodge needs a bit (no, a lot) of TLC: restaining, a thorough, thorough clean and its windows sorting out. Please Mr Manager - take a personal look at this lodge for yourself - because the setting of it and the view (from the balcony - not the windows because you can't see through them!!) is stunning. Everything else just lets it down I'm sorry. In its present state its one of the lodges to avoid.

We stayed for 7 nights in a deluxe woodland lodge. Apart from a few minor problem with the lights and sauna at first, we had a wonderful stay, the reception staff are fantastic, nothing is too much trouble, the maintenance staff are also extremely good. The restaurant is good but a bit pricey for a family of four. The lodge itself was spotlessly clean and comfortable and the hot tub is the childrens favourite part of the holiday along with the wildlife that visits the balcony every day. This is our 3rd holiday at Finlake and it wont be our last! Highly recommended

Room Tip: Worth the extra for deluxe woodland lodges with hot tubs

have had a christmas do in the functions room and a leaving do at the restaurant , both meals were fab , we then took friends here for a sunday roast . lovely selection of veg but only 2 slices of meat , all served up on a nearly cold plate and the food was warm ,not hot at all and this was 12.30 so not a late serving , shame really as this would've been a very tasty meal if it wasn't for that

Room Tip: we didn't stay as we live locally , though it does look a nice, clean place
