“Another Lovely Stay”
Reviewed 10 August 2014

This was our third visit to Finlake and we had yet another wonderful stay. The facilities on-site are really good and we took advantage of some of the go-active kids activities this year which our daughter enjoyed. It was great to have a hot tub this year and we used it every day. Finlake is a great location for exploring Teignmouth, Dawlish and we ventured further South to wonderful Dartmouth and Hope Cove.
Finlake is really expanding as many more lodges are being built. One of the staff members expressed a concern over whether the restaurant and fitness centre would be able to cope. Let's hope it will and they won't build too many as it is lovely just the way it is.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Deer Park area. Nice and quiet but would have preferred closer to the amenities, a...

Thank you for your review, we are delighted you have had another lovey stay with us.

As well as expanding the accommodation offering we are also developing other aspects of the park, this year we have new tennis and multisport courts, added the cabin café and extended the woodland walks.

We hope to have the pleasure of your company again, whilst we cannot guarantee the lodge or location you be in we can take requests and will always endeavour to meet these.

Myself and my husband and two children age 11 and 15 rented a private caravan/lodge in this park. The lodge was fab. Couldn't fault it at all. Will not be returning tho as I feel that we, as a family are too tall for the beds. Like all caravans the sleeping arrangements are smaller than we are used too at home. My daughter, age 11 is the smallest and she is 5'4" and even she hung out of the bed. Then my husband at 6'2". It was quite funny really! However that aside we had a great holiday. You have to drive everywhere though. I would have preferred a park more on the seafront but we saw this park had horse riding and tree top adventures and as the children are fun and active we thought this would be great. We booked the riding and the tree tops which were great fun and highly recommended. On site they had pool fun for children and adults. Unfortunately a little costly. ie inflateable canoeing and rafting about £10 to £12 per child. Water polo was £6 but most were about £10. However, although costly the children loved it, they had heaps of fun and the activity staff were fun and friendly in particular Aaron and Max. Archery was good too. The pool was freezing though so be warned. Two tennis courts but were always being used. A park for younger children. The shop on site was ok. Not cheap so we used the co-op about a mile away. Although it was a lovely park, very quiet and peaceful, we will not be returning. This would be because we want more upbeat holiday, more to do and less driving around. When you've sat in a car for 3/4 hours to get to your holiday the last thing the children want it to sit in the car day after day to get out. I would also say, the food in bar/restaurant was not bad at all and not unreasonably priced. Overall including spending in activities, food and accommodation we spent over £2000 for one week! In a caravan in the UK, in the rain. I think abroad for me next time.

Thank you for your review, we are glad to read that you enjoyed your holiday. From the content I can see that you have privately rented a static caravan directly from a private owner, that type of accommodation would be furnished with slim line beds. Finlake offer a wide range of spacious lodges with customers able to submit requests for a desired location, ie close to the central facilities.

Haulfryn have another park, Devon Hills situated in Torbay. I would recommend looking at this park for a future holiday, as well as being close to the coast they also offer the Go Active scheme that your children enjoyed taking part in.

it was expensive when we booked but well worth the money. we had our own hot tub which was extremely well maintained. The park itself is great with good sized indoor and outdoor pools. to save money i would highly recommend leaving the park to buy food or bring your own as the shop is very expensive. The lodge itself was great and was nice and warm and easily cold if you wanted it to be. the pitch and putt is defiantly aged at adults as it is huge again if your bring your own clubs and balls it is free just like the table tennis. overall we loved the park and is perfect for dogs as there are lovely woods onsite. it is also in a very good location being in the middle of lots of great places. The one really bad problem they need to sort out is the wifi at times it is inaccessible and should defiantly be improved

Room Tip: try to get in deer park it is a bit further away from the main stuff but that can easily be walked t...

The park itself is set in a great location, a great base to travel to nearby places of interest. We didn't have to deal with the staff much but check in\check out was a 5 minute breeze but everything still explained clearly. There is a great range of facilities and we were especially impressed by the pitch and putt course and evening walks around the site. There is also tennis courts, inside and outside pools, childrens playground and treetop walk.

We stayed in a Woodland Deluxe Lodge Four (Nbr 62). We cannot fault the accomodation. The lodge had everything that we needed and was large, comfortable and clean throughout. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils and all furniture comfortable and well kept. The lodge felt secluded and the balcony and hot tub was private and not overlooked which was a bonus.

We didn't really hear any noise and our lodge backed onto the woods so evenings were spent with dinner on the balcony watching the sun go down.

I'm not sure about some of the reviews saying that the furniture was 'tired' and the beds were hard, we certainly didn't find this - everything was comfortable and well maintained.

Room Tip: Lodge Nbr 62 was at the end of a 'strip' of lodges and was located with views of the wood...

Stayed for one week from the 21st july we had a great lodge on lakeside very well equipped and clean with hot tub which was checked every day during our stay there was plenty to do on site which the family took full advantage of from tree tops to archery I think they done nearly everything and each time they could not praise the instructors enough for the instructions they were given and the emphasis on safety there was a ten pound charge for gym membership but this was small price to pay for a very well equipped.gym I could go on for ever because I cannot say how impressed we all was the park and we all had a great holiday and hope to return.

The lodge we stayed in (superior country platinum VIP) was exceptional, very clean, well equipped, spacious, secluded and in a great location, definitely the best accommodation we've ever had!. We found all the staff very friendly. The hot tub was a real luxury and we went in there every day watching the sunset. The hot tub was checked every day by maintenance to check the chlorine levels etc. We ate in the restaurant a couple of times, the Sunday carvery was amazing and very reasonable. I had a few spa treatments which I booked on arrival. There is an outdoor swimming pool and slide which we all enjoyed, this was really clean and the life guards were very attentive and friendly. There is a small indoor pool but as the weather was sooooo hot we only lasted five minutes, was very clean with good changing rooms. All the site is very clean and well maintained. There is a big adventure playground which looked really good (my teenage boys were a bit old for that), I was tempted though!! The woodland walks are good and there are plenty of places to visit nearby with a big 24 hour tesco only about 10 mins away by car. All in all the best uk holiday we've been on and we booked to return next year before we left. Thank you for a fab holiday, really looking forward to coming next year..

Stayed in Lodge 48 - deluxe woodland lodge with suana and hottub.
Staff friendly and helpful in what could be a great place but...........basic checking of the lodge before new arrivals does not seem to happen - oven not working, plug in bath stuck so could not let water out, broken window pane, broken blind, broken towel rail and broken drawers in bedrooms.

But the real down side was allowing builders to be on site in mid July to extend a decking in a lodge next door. So woken up at 8 to the sound of banging, drilling, sawing, radios and builders shouting did not enhance the week!!!!!!!!

When we complained we were told they could not stop the building work and didnt know it was happening (no fault of the lady we complained to who was as helpful as she could be)

An offer to change lodges (to a lower spec and masive hassle), a free weekend or some money back (£250!!!!!!!!!!!) does not compensate for a long awaited week off work in what should have been a great lodge and relaxing environment.

Back to Forest Holidays for us !
