“The welcome was warm but sadly this isn't always enough.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 March 2012

Average pub fare and a little greasy although the burger itself was pretty decent and served in a ciabatta. The owners slightly sarcastic manner makes me think he's a frustrated old school comic but to be fair at least 3 of the staff made a point of saying hello went we went in and this makes a difference, particularly as this was our first visit.
Overall not brilliant but you probably wouldn't be too dissapointed if this was your local pub - there are far worse. If you are visiting, I recommend you enter from the front, unless you like walking past the loos (if you park out the back).
Won't be rushing back but wouldn't rule it out for a couple of pints. And, guys, if you are reading this....£35 for a night with Stan Boardman? Are you for real??

“Didn't know places like this still existed...”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 October 2011

Old fashioned, greasy depressing pub. The old fashioned furniture was from the 70s and the food too. All stodge and chips and patterned carpets and gloss browny coloured paint by the loos which also looked like public loos from another era. Will never go back. Dar, gloomy, depressing.

“Not Impressed”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 October 2011

Ate at this pub/restaurant. I was not impressed, service was ok and the staff tried their best but the place is dated, the food (Sunday roast) was average leaning toward poor. The beef was so thinly sliced it was see through and served with a rather bland selection of vegetables however I did like the roast potatoes.

It was £9 for the main course, £5 for starters and the deserts were either huge (crumble, which was good), or tiny (Banoffee, which was poor).

The gent (informed he was the owner) behind the bar was rather abrupt with my in-laws without reason, the toilets were old and not very clean. The whole place looked as if it needed a good clean.

I will not be visiting this place again...

“Fantastic food, great service and friendly staff.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 May 2011

Went for a wine tasting with a 3 course meal plus canapés to start with and home-made sweets to finish. Great value at £17.50 with 9 different wines to taste, all included. Good menu with several choices. Beautifully presented. I had wild boar and it was cooked to perfection. How the cooks managed to serve so many people all at the same time, cooking the boar exactly as requested, I do not know. I asked for Medium and my husband had rare - this is what we had. 3 choices of dessert and they looked as if they had been invented by the finalists of Masterchef. I had lemon syllabub with a sort of lacy toffee thing placed in it, wonderful. Cannot Speke too highly of the Sportsmanship, a lovely friendly atmosphere with fantastic food. Thanks to all the staff for an amazing evening.
