This was a perfect way for us to break the journey on our way to Penzance area, we called in and could not have asked for a better way to start the weekend.
The food is great (we only had simple lunch things but everything offered was of quality), the environment around the pub is lovely, I guess the rooms must be fab and the staff is really friendly.
Great place indeed, we will most definitely call again some other day!

Room Tip: We only had lunch...

We booked a table here for lunch for our family of 12. The building itself is very pretty, with a thatched roof. One thing to note is they don’t have a specific children’s menu, they only do smaller portion sizes of a few dishes from the main menu. There was a good choice on the menu. The staff were friendly and pleasant. The food was excellent.

We stayed with friends at The Bearslake Inn and thoroughlly enjoyed our time there. The double room was spacious and very comfortable. The new hosts Julian and Lisa gave us a very warm welcome and couldn't be more accommodating to us.

In the evening we had a private room for a birthday party and were served the most fantastic food that everyone bar none enjoyed (12 guests).

Thank you Julian and Lisa, we will return!

A very warm welcome greeted us when we arrived after a long drive. Check in was quick and we were taken to the saddle suite room which was warm and cozy on arrival. The room is large and can cater for 4 people, we took the double with its great views over the moors. The lower area is where we settled our Labrador as the establishment is dog friendly. The bathroom has a bath and separate shower cubicle which made it a little cozy although fine for us.
We booked a table in the restaurant , although we could have been seated in the bar. There seemed to be two menus a bar and a la carte menu. We went for mussels which were the largest starter portion I've ever come across and some of the largest and really plump and tasty. The black pudding scotch egg although nice needed something to cut the dryness other than some mixed leaves.
Mains of duck and chicken were OK, the duck was described as being served pink but was quite grey and the sauce very sweet, strangely served on the plate with a mixed leave and pepper salad. The chicken was cooked well and moist, however the Thai inspired satay sauce fell short, however still very tasty. The desserts sounded great, however the two hot options that we wished for after a long cold journey had sold out, which was a shame.
After a great night sleep in a really comfy bed we started our day with breakfast. Lots of cooked choice, however we went for the Devon breakfast, a huge plate of delicious food that set us up for the day out. It may have been an oversight, but there was no butter to go with the toast and I would have welcomed some local jams or honey to finish off with the lovely strong coffee served.
We would certainly recommend this place to any of our friends who plan to visit this part of Devon. And we wish the new owners all the very best in their new venture. We would certainly return, a few tweaks and this place will be fab.

Room Tip: Saddle suite with great views

Dear Surreypete

Thank you for your valuable feedback, we are pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay and that the room meet all your requirements. We are sorry to hear that you did not have any butter or jams for your toast in the morning, we do usually offer local jams and marmalades at breakfast, please do always feel free to ask us as we are always happy to help.

We do hope to see you again at the Bearslake Inn and will ensure the small tweaks are made :)

We didn’t know it was under new ownership and although had always liked it, thought the menu was limited. Thought the menu was even more limited tonight to the point of thinking his may be our last visit but we had the most amazing meal - superbly cooked, very tasty, in fact the best meal we have had here I think. Fabulous! We wish the new owners well and complement the new head chef. Can you please cook for us every day!!
