“New Year Break”
Reviewed 13 January 2012

We enjoyed a lovely New Year break at this Hotel, very comfortable with excellent food and friendly owners. Has an intimate home from home and House Party atmosphere. Great for moorland hikes – we enjoyed one with other guests and the proprietors on New Year’s Day. After a superb 7 course meal the night before and a Brunch the following morning it was just what we needed! Then back to a slice of luscious Christmas cake leaving space for another lovely Evening Diner featuring local lamb. We left the following day with a sprinkling of snow to set the scene - had hoped for more so we had an excuse to stay longer! By the way our collie loved his stay too – dogs are also made most welcome.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front are larger and have superb moorland views

Excellent, relaxing three-night break at The Cherrybrook. Superb food, bedroom with every comfort. Nothing too much trouble for Dave and Judy. Had an excellent 5-mile walk, guided by Dave, on New Year's Day in the pouring rain and ended up at a pub where our hosts had organised transport back to The Cherrybrook - service indeed!

Room Tip: We stayed in Combestone.

We have returned many times to this idyllic small hotel in the middle of Dartmoor. Dave and Judy are always brilliantly helpful and welcoming. The rooms are very modern, comfortable, clean and the shower is excellent! We always have our two Golden Retrievers with us who are very welcome and quickly settle into our room - they even have their own biscuits provided on the coffee tray! The food is excellent and all prepared in the hotel. There is always a good choice available! Dave is a keen walker himself and offers very helpful ideas for walks to suit all abilities.

We stayed at the Cherrybrook in August and had a very good time. The room was very comfortable and clean and the hotel is in a perfect location where you can simply walk out onto the moor to explore. The hotel was able to provide us with maps for walking and lots of helpful advice. Evening meals were also delicious and a perfect way to end each day. We were even able to see badgers in the garden at night.

We were greeted on arrival by Dave, who was very friendly and showed us and our dog to our room. Dave was helpful and explained that dinner would be available from 7pm. The room was immaculate, two chairs faced the window, with tea and coffee facilities and biscuits. We arrived in the dark but in the morning light the view over the countryside was amazing. The room was well decorated and modern with an ensuite which was clean and bright. The bar and dining room were welcoming and cosy, home from home as we sat and enjoyed a glass or two of wine and sampled the local ales whilst waiting for dinner. The four course dinner was DELICIOUS! Guinea Fowl for my partner and I had Salmon, both of which were cooked perfectly and the service was prompt, ensuring we had everything we wanted. The next day my partner and I went on a walk (following a tasty, locally produced fry up) which Dave told us about, he appears to have thorough knowledge of the area and recommended routes and provided us with a map.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and and would stay again, we were pleased with the facilities and how welcoming the owners were, particularly the fact that this hotel is dog friendly. Many thanks.

Fiona and Bart

Along with my young son we enjoyed a wonderful overnight stay at the Cherrybrook. It was a wonderful experience being warm and cosy in the dramatic heart of Dartmoor. The room we stayed in had been very tastefully modernised and served our purposes perfectly. The 2 couples who run the Hotel where engaging with interesting stories to tell and they made us feel most welcome. Breakfast was superb and set us on our way with a spring in our step!

We wanted a dog friendly hotel as a base for a few days walking on Dartmoor. The Cherrybrook was ideal with a warm welcome and amazing food, The 4-course evening meals were delicious, with a different choice each evening and great personal service.
Badger watching on the back-lawn one evening was an unexpected bonus!
