“Disappointed !”
Reviewed 13 August 2014

Beautiful country inn we had walked to, only to be met with a very unenthusiastic greeting, whatever happened to customer service with a smile!
Won't bother again, obviously targets were obviously met that day!

Dear Mrs Hogan,
I am sorry you didn't receive the welcome you felt you deserved.
We try and welcome all visitors to the Rugglestone regardless of how busy its been that day.
I am pleased you enjoyed the atmosphere giving us 5 stars even if myself or a member of our team failed you on this occasion.

Thanks for feedback
Regards Richard.

“Quite possibly the finest pub in England!”
Reviewed 9 August 2014

This pub is the sort you hope to find but very very rarely do. It is an absolute English diamond that we stumbled across by chance. Everything is perfect, the pub is lovely olde world, the real ale selection is to die for, the beer garden is beautiful with a lovely little stream and chickens wandering around by your feet, they look as though they have a personal hair dresser! The food is great English food and fair value. The views from the beer garden are fantastic, Widdecombe is lovely. They even have accomodation that I would like to try out in the future. If you are within 1 hour of Widdecombe YOU HAVE TO VISIT THIS PUB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“Lovely pub!”
Reviewed 9 August 2014

Loved the location (village gorgeous, countryside even more so). It's on a range of footpaths. Beer lovely. But boy was it busy and small. Reminded me of a joke about how many people you can get into a Mini. Except that this Mini was serving delicious beer and allowed dogs.

If only all pubs could reach the standard set by the Rugglestone Inn.
This place is superb.
Great food, huge portions, lovely beer garden, character and efficient service even when extremely busy.
Perhaps the best pub we've visited in a long time.
We'll be back again and again.
Well done.

“what a gem !”
Reviewed 4 August 2014 via mobile

Popped in for lunch , having been going to widecombe for over 17 years and using the old inn previously - which now has very mixed reviews , decided to try the Rugglestone.

wow wow wow - this is perfection , a friendly landlord , a great pint of legend ale, a couple of minutes to get served at the small bar, while the folks in front ordered their food and drinks.

Ordered a fish pie, chicken liver pate & roast pork bap

Top marks for quality, portion size (incredibly generous) & presentation.

fish pie was crammed with various fish and prawns , topped with mash and cheese - delicious!

The pork roast bap was huge with lovely thick slices of meat , stuffing & apple sauce, served on the side.

the liver pate appears home made and is yummy !

Lovely garden seating , and despite every table being full our food was served in just a few minutes.

This truely is a pub you should not miss

thank you thank you thank you , we will be back lots!
