“Disappointing”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 August 2014

We hadn't been to the Rugglestone for a while, and sadly we found this visit somewhat disappointing compared to previous visits. One of us had the steak pie which, although packed with lots of meat, was a little tasteless and a bit dry whilst the pasty crust was hard. The other pie, steak and stilton, had a good pastry crust, plenty of filling but the gravy was thin. However, the main bugbear on this visit was the over-riding smell of stale fat which permeated the pub and our clothes reeked of chips and grease when we got outside. Better ventilation is required to stop odours spoiling a nice country pub.

“Comfort Food with a Difference”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 August 2014

Very nice country pub-restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. The pub is tiny but no matter as people come for the food. Varied and innovative menu using fresh local ingredients, properly cooked and presented with no frills. We had the steak and ale, and steak and stilton, pies. Excellent, particularly the latter. Reasonable prices. Located a 10 minute walk from Widecombe village down a narrow country lane.

“Friendly Local Pub”

Great pub with good food and friendly people in a gorgeous setting. If you go in summer, a drive through part of Dartmoor in the late evening light is spectacular.

“Over stuffed!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 August 2014

A very pretty pub to visit with a nice garden, complete with tables and animals, a delightful little stream, with ducks, running past the front door, nice for children.
Pleasant, welcoming staff.
The gents toilet door was latched open, giving rather more of an open view to passers-by than I would have liked! I took it off the latch to partly close it and give a bit more privacy, but noticed later that it had been latched open again.
The food was slightly above average pub grub, with fresh carrots & spuds, & frozen peas, served in massive portions, too much in fact. In order to leave room for a dessert, I was obliged to leave part of the main meal on the plate (something I never normally do as I hate waste). The treacle tart was nice but heavy and giant-size.
A nice enough meal but too much!
Should pubs like this serve smaller and slightly cheaper dishes? They might make more money then as people would buy more courses. If I go again I will just have a starter & a pudding.

“Disappointed !”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 August 2014

Beautiful country inn we had walked to, only to be met with a very unenthusiastic greeting, whatever happened to customer service with a smile!
Won't bother again, obviously targets were obviously met that day!
