My family of 5 had a wonderful stay at Brimble cottage. It really was a home from home with plenty of space for all and well equipped for your stay.
The setting is idyllic and you really feel immersed with nature with wildlife a plenty, whether that be birds munching the nuts from the bird feeders throughout the day, quails wandering around outside the front door or the wild moorland horses passing along the lane or sheep and cows.
The cottage is within easy reach of the coast (40 minute drive to Paignton) and there are many lovely walks and places of interest a short drive away. The cafe on the green in Widecombe in the Moor is a must visit for breakfast, lunch or an early dinner.
Venetia and Norman were really lovely hosts and kindly left us some milk, eggs, chocolates and a bottle of wine to welcome us. This was greatly appreciated after a particularly long drive to the cottage due to the summer traffic. They are on hand if needed but otherwise leave you to make yourself feel at home and enjoy the cottage and the wonderful surroundings.
We had regular visits throughout our stay from Ferdie (Whippet) and Daisy (Border Collie), which was lovely and they really are fantastic dogs.
I would highly recommend staying here if you want a relaxing break and lovely cottage at a very reasonable price for the your holidays. My family and I had such a great time that we would definitely consider coming back again.
If you are looking for peaceful tranquillity in a beautiful location, but with all the amenities for a comfortable and relaxing holiday, look no further.
Located just over a mile outside Widecombe but only 30 minutes to 1 hour from historic towns, beautiful moorland/ woodland walks and the coast, there is plenty of space in this well appointed cottage, including garden and patio at the rear.
Thanks Norman and Venetia for being so welcoming and friendly and keep up the amazing work you are doing with the wildflower meadows and conservation. It was a pleasure to see it all.
We recently stayed for a week at Brimble cottage and we had an amazing visit. Venetia and Norman are wonderful hosts and the property is stunning. It's out of the way, quiet and restful with lots of birds. Ponies and cattle walk past the cottage but it is only a few minutes to Widecombe and easy to get to places. We loved exploring the moors and even though we had some misty/wetter days it was brilliant. We would love to visit again. Thank you so much- we will miss Dartmoor.
In the heart of Dartmoor the cottage is in a wooded valley within easy reach of walking trails, riding stables and the abundant historic sites on the moor, and still only a short driving distance from pretty unspoilt villages and towns. The owners are very hospitable with welcoming eggs, milk and a bottle of wine. A special location for children to enjoy wild ponies, sheep and cattle wandering on the moor. We loved waking to the sounds of farm animals, and sitting in the enclosed garden visited by guinea fowl. We had a wonderful time and a great escape from city life.
This was a well equipped and convenient bolt hole for our stay, our hosts, Venetia and Norman were so welcoming, our grandson was fascinated by all the resident animals, and although the weather was "mixed,(What can you expect in March!) we made the best of it. It was good to be able to come and go as we pleased, and we want to return as soon as possible.
We loved it here! It was just what we needed, wonderfully peaceful and beautiful surroundings. We were blessed with a wonderful sunny week and walked our socks off! Lovely walks, straight from the front door, so the car wasn't always needed. We walked into Widdecombe a couple of times.
The owners had the perfect balance of being very friendly and welcoming, but not intrusive. The cottage was well equipped and very comfortable.
We stayed for just over a week with our little dog, to escape our city's fireworks over Bonfire Night week, it was perfect for this and we loved it so much, that within an hour of coming home, we had rebooked for another stay. Happy days!
