Family-friendly welcoming large hotel in great location. Superb verandah and large lawned garden with pool overlooking the bay. Clean, well-kept, decor frequently updated.

I was first taken here as a child by my Dad in the 70s and have been visiting from time to time ever since! So many places claim to be 'family hotels' but this one really walks the walk, I remember when my son was little (he's 15 now) sitting him up at the bar in the evening whilst the barman warmed his milk. No-one batted an eyelid.

I've downgraded to very good rather than excellent as i feel the restaurant food could be better. Nothing particularly wrong with it as such, but I've had much better elsewhere for same money. It would be nice to see something fresher in the fruit line than tinned grapefruit and prunes at breakfast buffet for example. Oh, they used to have this amazing sweet trolley that did the rounds at dinner, but this has recently dumbed-down to a fairly standard list of treacle tart, profiteroles, ice cream etc, think Premier Inn.

Room Tip: Balcony rooms with seaview lovely. Remember you can take your own wine/food for drinking/eating on t...

This hotel is well positioned in Dawlish Warren with ample parking , fantastic views and impressive out door veranda area. Plenty of choice at the breakfast buffet. Staff are very friendly and provide efficient and attentive service to guests. Great focus on family here and I would consider bringing the children if the price was affordable for a family - swimming pools , little children's playroom with soft play , outdoor play area all big plus points!
We stayed 2 nights as a couple , room was quite small to shuffle round in. Bathroom had a funny "clinical" smell about it when first entering , bath was small (I'm 5ft 1 and couldn't lie fully in it!) however shower was very powerful and did the job perfectly! It was nice touch to be given toiletries and tea/coffee making facilities though. Bed was very comfortable. Unfortunately we did think the room rate was on the pricier side given size of room and other equally rated accommodation we have stayed in.
Things to consider about this hotel - floorboards are sensationally noisy and you can hear every motion outside the room and inside - thankfully the hotel was quiet through the night . We could hear the television from the room next door at 6.00 am in the morning and I'm sure they could hear ours after 11pm! Some sound proofing needs to considered - especially as it's an older building they should be conscious that guests are going to constantly bring this up and be proactive about investing in a solution. (I have stayed in much older buildings where I have not experienced the same level of noise)
This hotel allows dogs which is a great concept however I have to admit that I have a problem with owners leaving their beloved pets in the room and letting them whine and bark which is distressing not only for the dog but also for other guests to hear who are trying to relax - maybe the hotel should make a regulation about not leaving their pets unattended. I also noticed what looked like animal faeces outdoors right by the children's play area ! Slightly off putting for any parent who wants to make full use of facilities! Despite this , good service from the staff is very apparent , they are very customer focused and that is the key to returning guests!

Hello and thank you for your comments.

We are obviously pleased that you like so many aspects of the hotel and glad you enjoyed the location with 19 acres of wooded grounds, view, bed, shower, ample free parking, children’s facilities, swimming pools, tennis court and service all of which are included in the rates you pay. August is our priciest time of year with our maximum demand, now compressed by government regulations, into a few short weeks of the year. We can and do offer substantially more attractive rates at other times of the year.

We are sorry you found the bath a little small but as you note some parts of the building are almost 300 years old and were not designed with bathrooms in mind. Until last year all of our rooms had both bath and shower which was quite unusual for a hotel in a rural location. We have just removed the baths from 6 rooms to replace them with walk in showers as we have been getting much greater demand for this style of bathroom.

We offer a variety of room types and sizes not all of which are available unless you contact the hotel directly, we also offer substantial discounts for families with younger children with up to 2 children under 10 free of charge for food and accommodation when sharing a family room, and once again not all of these offers are available unless you contact the hotel directly.
We do ask that guests control their pets at all times, clean up after them and do not let them disturb other guests.
We are constantly looking at improving and investing in the Langstone Cliff hotel following guest suggestions and have been assured on many occasions by many different tradesmen and companies that this “cure” will stop the floorboards squeaking in that particular area “forever” and most of the time it does for a time then it slowly creeps back and we start all over again.
Thank you once again for your comments.

Kind Regards

Stayed here for the weekend while visiting family. Room was a good size with air conditioning all in perfect working order. Overall has a very traditional feel even though there is free Wi-Fi. Breakfast was plentiful again very traditional English but all hot and freshly prepared. As we go to Dawlish Warren several times a year we would definitely stay again

Hello,
Thank you for your comments, we are sorry that your room was not ready by our stated time of 3.00pm and that no apology was offered for this.
We are however glad you liked your room and the service you received at the bar.
We feel we offer good value for money due to the facilities we offer which are included in the price charged. August is the most expensive time of the year to stay with us as it our peak season. We do offer more favourable rates at other times of the year.
Kind regards

A great seaside retreat with stunning views, great service and so relaxing. Breakfast was brilliant, service couldn't be better for door, bar and housekeeping, with nothing too much trouble. Only downside was no air con in room but a fan was quickly provided on request. Definitely going to stay again and take our dog next time.

The hotel is a welcoming family run establishment. The food is excellent, the staff are polite attentive efficient and very well trained. The decor is extremely tasteful. The facilities are excellent The hotel is very clean
The main reason I chose this hotel was because I could take my dog it's a great place for kids and dogs with dog walks and plenty for kids to do. I will certainly return there and recommend it for a carefree happy break
