My husband and I were lucky enough to stay at the Rockford Inn for our wedding anniversary at the weekend. We wanted to stay somewhere in a remote location for some peace and quiet and the Rockford exceeded our expectations.

The welcome as soon as we arrived was fantastic, I wish I'd got the barmaids name as she was lovely and chatty. In fact everyone we encountered at the Inn over the two days was wonderful, the chef was friendly and the owner was possibly one of the most bight and cheery people we had ever met, she made us feel so at home and like nothing would be too much trouble!

Our room was great, clean and fresh with a beautiful view overlooking the river.

The pub itself is lovely, a proper old fashioned pub with a lovely (slightly more modern) lounge. We imagined sitting there in the winter with the fire roaring after a long walk!

We ate in the pub on the Saturday night and both had steak, which were cooked to perfection. The starters were fabulous too as was the bottle of wine we chose. In the nicest possible way we expected "pub grub" from a old fashioned Inn but the food we received was incredible, compliments to the chef! We wished we'd been staying longer so we could experience more of the menu! Breakfast was fantastic too with a wide choice which set us up for a day of exploring Devon.

All in all we wished we'd been staying longer, the Inn offers exceptional value for money and we will be back in the winter! Thank you for a lovely anniversary weekend.

Room Tip: We had room 5 overlooking the river

Had lunch here which was nice whilst sitting by river. Dog friendly inn but unfortunately advised can't actually stay at inn with a dog which is a shame but
Most other local inns do take dogs so this one good for a meal and drinks.

Very friendly and helpful, offering advice on walks and routes, printing maps out. Excellent pub food. Perfect location with easy access to stunning walks to suit everyone. Clean, comfortable well presented rooms, some with river views. Have stayed for a couple of long weekends in both winter and summer, and will be back!

Great authentic hunter/fishing lodge feel. Hiking trails available right out the front door. Great hikes into the woods and to the ocean. A little difficult to find, but well worth it. We only spent a single night and wished we spent more days. Dinner fare was excellent along with the pub. Hosts were extremely helpful to review our hiking itinerary and future travel plans in the UK. We would like to return to this inn someday.

After two nights of soggy camping nearby, The Rockford Inn was very warm and welcoming. We just stayed one night but had a lovely warm shower as soon as we arrived. The room was very well decorated, neat and tidy. It's position next to the river is idyllic and there are plenty of walks starting from your doorstep. We had a three course meal in the evening and the food was delicious. Breakfast in the morning was just as good and the service throughout was friendly and efficient without being too in your face. Would recommend this place to anyone.

After reading a good review for the Rockford Inn in one of the Sunday papers we booked a three night stay at the end of April and were not disappointed. The inn was warm and cosy, our room very comfortable, we had lovely food with good service and nothing seemed too much trouble for Sarah, Cathryn and the team. We look forward to visiting again.

Booked two nights at the Rockford and arrived just after lunch to a warm welcome, table had been booked for us that evening if we wanted it and menu looked good so we took it up. Room was per description, very clean and 2 bottles of still water for us to drink. Warm and comfortable.

Meal was lovely with good choice of food, salt and pepper squid for me and smoked salmon starter for my husband (asked for no prawns and came as ordered) both very nice. We both had the beef and stilton pie with chips and veg, very tasty and packed full of lovely meat and sauce. The veg was very fresh and chips dry and again very good. Hubby had a crumble for dessert with custard and couldn't finish it all!!

Good selection of real ales and thatchers cider :-)

Cheese board for two with a bottle of red the following night and very good again, way too much cheese but someone had to eat it.

Would recommend this accommodation and restaurant to all, remote location with river running past which was great. If you're into walking then this could be for you

Room Tip: We had room 7, very nice with crisp linen and good shower
