“WOW!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 August 2014

Stayed at the Rockford for three nights, wish it was longer! The setting is beautiful, very quiet and sits beside a river. The room was very clean and modern, we had a room to the side of the inn, so couldn't see the river. Breakfast in the morning was freshly cooked and plentiful, Catherine is very attentive and offers more tea, coffee and toast. We ate here in the evening, delicious food, very large portions! My husband had the steak and stilton pie one night and declares it was the best pie he had eaten! I tried for 2 nights to have desert and only achieving it on the last night, having the apple and rhubarb crumble with custard, again delicious! Sarah is an excellent chef. Enjoyed our stay and if we visit that area again we would defiantly return to the Rockford Inn.

Room Tip: A room at the front would get a lovely view of the forest and river.

My sister and I enjoyed another wonderful weekend stay at the Rockford Inn. Sarah and Catherine were super hosts and we could not have asked for more. As usual the food was excellent, I would definitely recommend the Fish Pie, well actually I would recommend everything on the menu. It was such a good time I have booked another weekend to bring my friends down to enjoy this wonderful place.

Enjoyed two lovely nights at the Rockford Inns and will definitely be back; this is a real gem! The staff are friendly and welcoming, very efficient and nothing is too much trouble. My room was clean, contemporary, well equipped and very comfortable. There was an excellent selection of beers and my two evening meals were great. Top this off with great breakfasts and stunning scenery and you really do have the complete package. Highly recommended!!

Enjoyed a lovely lunch here at this beautiful location, and the walk alongside the river through the woods to Watersmeet was worth the effort. Although extended since our last visit 50 years ago whilst on honeymoon, it was just as friendly and welcoming. Maybe next time we will get to stay.

We stayed here for 3 nights at the beginning of july 2014.Our room overlooked some lovely trees and rushing water there was a walk through the woods nearby to Watersmeet and further on to lynmouth. The rooms were tastefully decorated and furnishings were adequate. The ensuite was very compact as was the room as a whole. We ate there on two evenings and found the food excellent ,very imaginative and well laid out., Would definitely recommend this hotel to other travellers. There were alot of stairs to the bedrooms so not so good for the disabled. A warm welcome and very friendly and obliging staff.

Room Tip: don't know if there were any bedrooms downstairs but the upstairs ones involved a steep staircas...

My husband and I were lucky enough to stay at the Rockford Inn for our wedding anniversary at the weekend. We wanted to stay somewhere in a remote location for some peace and quiet and the Rockford exceeded our expectations.

The welcome as soon as we arrived was fantastic, I wish I'd got the barmaids name as she was lovely and chatty. In fact everyone we encountered at the Inn over the two days was wonderful, the chef was friendly and the owner was possibly one of the most bight and cheery people we had ever met, she made us feel so at home and like nothing would be too much trouble!

Our room was great, clean and fresh with a beautiful view overlooking the river.

The pub itself is lovely, a proper old fashioned pub with a lovely (slightly more modern) lounge. We imagined sitting there in the winter with the fire roaring after a long walk!

We ate in the pub on the Saturday night and both had steak, which were cooked to perfection. The starters were fabulous too as was the bottle of wine we chose. In the nicest possible way we expected "pub grub" from a old fashioned Inn but the food we received was incredible, compliments to the chef! We wished we'd been staying longer so we could experience more of the menu! Breakfast was fantastic too with a wide choice which set us up for a day of exploring Devon.

All in all we wished we'd been staying longer, the Inn offers exceptional value for money and we will be back in the winter! Thank you for a lovely anniversary weekend.

Room Tip: We had room 5 overlooking the river

Had lunch here which was nice whilst sitting by river. Dog friendly inn but unfortunately advised can't actually stay at inn with a dog which is a shame but
Most other local inns do take dogs so this one good for a meal and drinks.
