We went to Meadpool with my partner's brother and his wife who have been many times before. It was absolutely delightful. The location is beautiful. The garden is so attractive with lovely flowers and a constant view of wild birds pecking at food placed out for them. At the bottom of the garden is the river which could be seen from several windows in the bedroom we used. Gillian and Ian are perfect hosts, not only keeping the house and its rooms immaculate but also providing splendid breakfasts. They are so warm and friendly, after a short time, they feel like friends. We all walked for miles in the day and ate out locally in the evenings. I would recommend without hesitation.

Room Tip: The large room with windows on two sides is wonderful.

just returned from another fab weekend stay at meadpool, we have stayed at many hotels and b&b's in Devon/Cornwall. This is the "BEST IN THE WEST" Ian & Gillian are the perfect hosts nothing is to much trouble for them, they will book your meals for you at the local pubs, even offered to pick us up when our car broke down en route, they really go that bit beyond and further, would highly reccomend a stay here.

I recently stayed at Gillian and Ian's fantastic B&B the night before my wedding. My best friend stayed with me too. We had the Red Room and the Suite. We couldn't have been made more welcome. We had all of the comforts of home, but better, because Gillian and Ian are superb hosts and made my special day extra special. On the Saturday morning, after a champagne breakfast with smoked salmon and scrambled eggs ( their own hen's eggs which taste divine!) the photographer, florist, childminder, hairdresser, bridesmaid etc were all made welcome and made coffee! I can't thank G &I enough for making my wedding preparations completely stress free. The other wedding guests that stayed at Meadpool on the Saturday night commented on it being "the best B&B they had ever stayed in"! I have to agree. Thank you so very much.

Room Tip: The Red room, although not ensuite, has a good sized, well appointed private bathroom with lovely to...

We have stayed many times at Meadpool House; on one occasion we booked all the bedrooms for a few days for family gathering. When you arrive Gillian and Ian greet you with a delicious afternoon tea and cake which, if the weather is good, you can enjoy it sitting next to the river which runs along the bottom of their garden. Wonderful! Gillian and Ian are excellent hosts and make you feel very welcome. I know they have had to turn down many bookings due to their no children and no dogs policy but, personally, we feel our stay is all the better for it. You know it is going to be quiet and everywhere is immaculately clean but homely. Ian and Gillian have obviously spent a lot on good quality furnishings. Brendon itself is a lovely village and most evenings we eat at the Staghunters Inn which is a short walk from Meadpool House. The breakfasts at Meadpool House are excellent quality with a very good choice – a great start to a days walking!

What a perfect choice we made when we booked in here. Our hosts were friendly and very helpful, the food was excellent, and the room was spotlessly clean, warm and comfortable. We opted for the most expensive room as a treat for one night but we ended up staying three. Views on three sides included an ideal one over the river where we had perfect and relaxed views of dipper, heron and goosander amongst other species. Fantastic. The walk down the river to Lynmouth is wonderful.
Meals in the village were also up to the mark, the food and atmosphere at The Rockford surpassed it.
Possibly the best B+B we've ever stayed.

Room Tip: Go for a room with a river view,
