“Always Welcoming”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 May 2010

Visited Exmoor again but this time stayed on the other side of the moor. However, decided to go back to the Staghunters for dinner on the Saturday evening. Warmly welcomed by the owner and his family and had a wonderful meal in the bar. Chatting with others in there that night, it seemed that we were not alone in being returning guests. Almost everyone had stayed (or eaten) there before. My wife is vegetarian and there was at least 3 choices on the menu. Sat in the bar with a couple and their dog, yes, the Staghunters is pet friendly. They were staying at the hotel and were more than pleased with the accommodation. We have booked for September.

As on previous years, we stayed for 2 nights as a wedding anniversary break. We took the opportunity to do a couple of walks with the dog, in the beautiful countryside. As previously it was a pleasure to return to the welcoming warmth and comfort of this Hotel and enjoy the marvellous dinners in the bar. The family owners are always friendly and attentive.

My wife and I finally managed our first stay at the Stag Hunters having visited many times for meals/drinks over the years. Set in idyllic surroundings, the Stag Hunters is the heart of Brendon, a beautiful small village in a beautiful part of Devon. Family run, Richard, Wendy, James, Simon and their staff are so welcoming and friendly we felt at home immediately. Breakfast was served in the quaint dining room overlooking the garden. Evening meals were served in the bar area, with tables reserved for us. The food was delicious and varied (as well as very generous portions). They have created the perfect balance between providing good accommodation for tourists, whilst maintaining a great pub for the locals.

The room was basic, but cosy with a lovely view over the river. There were tea/coffee making facilities and a TV and ample wardrobe and drawers for clothes. The bathroom was nearly as big as the bedroom. We were warned there was no shower in the room when we booked, but this was a minor issue. The building is very old, sloping floors etc and full of charm (and one of the reasons we wanted to stay here)

Great countryside for walking, photography etc. We had the best 4 nights we could have wished for.

Got back yesterday from a wonderfull stay at The Stag Hunters hotel...what a wonderfull place! I went for a riding break, just me and my 14 yr old daughter Charlotte. We were both made to feel extremely welcome from the moment we walked through the door, nothing was too much trouble.

Charlotte and I ate at the hotel 2 of the 3 nights we stayed and the food was lovely, breakfast was amazing, cereals, fruit, fruit juice, full english.....Charlotte loved it!

The room we had was spacious and had a HUGE bathroom, it was kept spotless for us during our stay and the radiators worked extremely well when we got a bit cold. We were kept well stocked up with Tea and Coffee for the room.

I actually work as a Travel Consultant and have stayed in some wonderfull 5 star hotels all over the world...I have to say that the service we recieved at The Stag Hunters was on a par to this and we will be going back very soon.

Thanks Simon and the family for making our stay such a special one.....see you again very soon!
