Just got back from Combe Martin after staying at the Poplars again, just can't believe the changes to this place year on year. Now to add to this beautiful hotel there is now a roof patio which is a brilliant sun trap, you can sit up there and have coffee and read, or just sit and listen to the trickle of the fountain as you relax. As usual there is a varied choice of breakfast menu which is unlimited and Jean has good food awards for her marvellous home made cooking using all fresh local produce. Of an evening relax in the well stocked bar and have a natter and a laugh with Cliff and other guests. A very enjoyable break as always, can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: Rooms on the back of the hotel have the best view but all rooms are clean and have ensuite TV and te...

We returned again this year for another short break, but must make it longer next time. Jean and Cliff extend such wonderful hospitality making a really friendly place to stay. Jeans cooking is excellent and Cliff always has a joke and an entertaining tale to tell. Thanks for the entertainment Cliff! The rooms are clean and comfortable and the balcony rooms have spectacular views. Even the weather was good this year. Lots to do and see nearby in such inspiring beautiful countryside. Excellent beach for children, I should know, I grew up there.

Room Tip: Try a room with a balcony if you can

From arriving till leaving the poplars the hospitality was amazing, jeans cooking and menu selection were excellent and the room with balcony and sea view was just what the doctor ordered for a relaxing break from a very hectic family life. Easy parking, lovely clean comfortable en suite room and a friendly welcoming bar. wether travelling alone or in a group cliff and jean will make you feel welcome. From the moment I arrived until the moment i left the poplars cliff and jean were excellent hosts and nothing was too much of a problem.

What can I say about our return to the Poplars Hotel, Combe Martin? If anything it was even better than last year, if that is at all possible. We stayed for 12 nights this summer, from the 28th of June to the 10th of July, and Cliff and Jean have become good friends. Jean's cooking of course is out of this world, our lovely balcony room (Room 1) with fantastic sea views was excellent. Our lovely evenings in the beautiful bar will never be forgotten. We met some lovely people whilst we were there, and of course, Cliff was highly entertaining as usual!! The bar prices are very reasonable too. We had many a laugh over the 12 nights. To top it all, we had some great weather, and Combe Martin is a lovely village and the North Devon coastline is absolutely stunningly beautiful. A truly magical, memorable holiday at a perfect hotel, run by two wonderful people. Thanks for buying my book, Cliff!!!

We will be back.

Room Tip: Choose one of the three balcony rooms, if available. Absolutely stunning sea views and wonderful su...

Home again after another carefree stay at the Poplars with mine hosts Cliff & Jean. Year after year they continue to offer their guests a most relaxing and happy time. As paying guests we have always found the Poplars to be great value for money whether you go for Bed & Breakfast, or Bed, Breakfast & Evening Meal. Bar prices are very competitive too. The most value however, are the memories you leave with, these are priceless, and cost you nothing.

Room Tip: First floor rear rooms have balconies, a nice sun trap with lovely view of the bay.

Extremely friendly owners. Spacious bedroom with lovely view, all food appetizing and plentiful. Bar reasonably priced, with wide variety of drinks served with a smile. Within easy reach of bus stop and village. Very attractive frontage to hotel with parking available.. Can't wait to return with a view to for many years to come. A problem free holiday. Thanks for making holiday very enjoyable.

Room Tip: Rooms at rear provide better view with balconies.

It depends what you are looking for whether you like this hotel or not. We found it fine for us and very similar to Moorfield House at Braemar - family run with little supporting help and you have a front door key. So nothing like a chain or larger hotel. You see a lot of proprietor Cliff. It was very quiet when we were there, so didn't get a feel for what it would be like with full rooms. We had exceptionally good service at meal times, food is plain and English, spot on for us. Two choices of starter (melon or soup), 2 of main course and 3 desserts in the evening. Cooked breakfast was just right for quality and quantity, but only orange juice and no grapefruit or prunes. Clean and tidy throughout in spite of building work going on. Bedroom was small with only one chair and balcony too cold to venture onto for more space. Welsh local TV. All in all great value for money at a very traditional English, small, family run hotel.
