“As expected, the caravan was made of cardboard, smelt of wet dog and should be demolished”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 September 2011

Had I read the reviews in advance I wouldn't have bothered going, unfortunately I didn't read the reviews until after I arrived.

My family of 4 stopped in a silver primula caravan which should be capable of sleeping 6 people. My wife and I slept in the "main bedroom" (which I couldn't walk round the bed due to a lack of space), two would sleep in the lounge and my two young children slept in second bedroom that I couldn't even get into as it was that small.

The site and the caravan was very run down and could probably do with demolishing.

The interior of the caravan shabby and very depressing and smelt of a damp dog, to the extent that even the clothes we didn't wear had to be washed when we got home. The caravan was cold and drafty whereby we couldn't even dry out our towels when having had a shower.

The clubhouse had a great view over the Coombe Martin bay, unfortunately it was let down by the interior which was very depressing and the food which was total rubbish. The kitchen was on view, which came complete with a freezer and 4 (yes 4) microwaves. My wife sent her pie back, only to be told that all the food was "cooked" for the same time. She refused the offer of having another pie and got a refund instead. I battered cod was so dried up that I bent my knife trying to cut it.

I don't know the difference between gold and silver caravans, except that BBC1 wouldn't work on our television. I dread to think what bronze would be like.

The only saving grace was that we paid £180 last minute for 3 nights, rather than the quoted £360.

I don't know if we expected too much from from our stay or whether or not this is the "norm" and people put up with this.

I have never been on a holiday where it is great to be back home.

Still on the plus side, alot of reviewers had a far worse experience than my family.

Very warm chalet, but looked like something out of "Friday 13th" and the beds were not comfortable at all! The hot water, well, we had a BATH if you are considering staying at this park, get a caravan that has a SHOWER. (you won't go far wrong.) The chalet's bath water supply was enough for 1 person only, my friend had to share my bathwater, after I had been in it. Then it took 12 hours to get a small crap tank of water again. So, don't be discouraged, just hire a caravan and leave the chalets well alone ;anything with a bath on this site! My poor boyfriend had sink washes for the whole weekend....
Friendly local staff, nice clubhouse and everything else ok!

We stayed here on one of The Sun £9.50 holidays, however we did pay a little more to upgrade to 'luxury' accomodation based on the mixed reviews we'd read about this holiday park. The caravan was very modern, clean and tidy as was the holiday park itself. The staff were very friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome. The bar and food prices were very reasonable and the views from the restaurant were just fab. The park is on a very steep hillside, which may prove difficult for some. The only slightly negative thing, was that the allocated parking space was very small and on the roadside not alongside the caravan like other parks we've stayed at. The positioning of the spaces could have made it difficult for us and our neighbouring caravans to access our paths up to the caravans, were it not for the fact that we all parked slightly out in the road and out of the lines to ensure it wasn't a problem. Apart from that, we could not fault this holiday park at all.

Having booked this break through a coupon related paper I wasn't expecting it to be the Ritz.! The staff were very helpful and friendly but the accommodation was poor. Rusty screws fixing a piece of plastic in the shower, dodgy cooker which had to be lit by matches, broken light fittings. The only saving grace was the bedding. The whole camp needs a makeover cos it looks like it hasn't had any money spend on it in years. We stayed at a Parkdean camp the year before and this place is not in the same league. It has the feel of a owner going through the motions, being lazy sitting on a investment and not willing to invest in it. So come on John Fowler pull your finger out cos your letting the town, your staff and the area down.

Room Tip: There isn't any!!!

We booked this through The Sun on a special deal, just for an extra weekend break. We were given an old bungalow that was clean but had clearly not been updated since the place was opened - it was like going back to the 1950's!
We ended up sleeping in the living room on the pull out bed as the ones in the bedrooms looked a bit dodgy and the double bed was tiny. There was also a bath but no shower attachment or anything and the kitchen cooker was gas that had to be lit with a lighter or matches.

It was fine for us because we paid bugger all for the trip and it was just an opportunity for an extra holiday, but if you paid the full price for a family holiday here and got this you'd be seriously annoyed. I think we may have been put in this bungalow because we booked a cheap deal and that the other accommodation is better but I'm not sure.

On the plus side the staff were friendly (although we went out most of the time) and it is a good location for exploring, as long as you don't mind hills!

Checked in on the Monday for a short break and found the place to be a little gem!
Yes there are hills and some are a tad on the steep side but don't let that distract you,
the site is run well and the accommodation is clean, fresh and comfy,
The site has a nice club house bar which doubles as the reception and has stunning
views of he coast,
there was also a very well run swimming pool (out doors) that was heated (28c) which
was very refreshing,
it was a shame we had to leave on the Friday, as the site was very enjoyable!

Small, quiet, friendly and the most amazing views. The out door 'heated' swimming pool really was a bonus. Nice pint of Guiness in a bar that looks straight out to sea.
The brochure says the site is sloping we would say it was positively hilly, but this added to the attraction of this gem of a site on the North Devon coast.
We rented a chalet that had all that you required. A little old fashioned but newly decorated and very clean.
Lots of places to visit in surrounding area. Lots of places to eat and drink in a beautiful location.
