Combe Martin Beach Holiday Park
Reviewed 10 July 2014

We stayed on a sun holiday mon-sat and for the price it was not too bad
The positives
Very friendly check in at reception, well kept and reasonable priced beer, great views, friendly entertainment staff, ( join in with the bingo and quizzes it's good fun), clean and well kept park, good location for exploring, friendly chatty bar staff.
The not so positives
Very basic accommodation,no shop on site, food in the bar was okay but nothing special,
We would stay again but would seriously consider upgrading, we only paid £38.00 so we were happyish with our stay

Stayed here 28th june 2014 for a week, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Not keen on huge sites now, preferring smaller quieter parks. We have stayed in better gold standard caravans, but it was adequate. The clubhouse - with its huge windows overlooking the bay, -are spectacular! Watching the sunsets here, with your pint/food cannot be matched?
Bar food is limited, but expected for a small site,-but what is on offer is cheap and tasty.
The swimming pool was ok, and the water really was warm!
The site is hilly, as is the walk down to the Bay with its shops, - but we enjoyed the exercises.
Thanks for our lovely stay, - and perhaps we will return?

Would recommend for a long weekend only. The only issues encountered was due to bedding we had paid for was left outside in the rain and when enquired about we discovered house keeping was suppose to have put it on which was not done. Apart from this the room is very basic but is large enough to move around comfortably. They are very dog friendly with a beautiful nature walk which also includes activities for children in the form of a quiz leaflet at the bar. The Club house is nice with a lovely view of the sea however no dogs are allowed inside here. In the evenings they have children's entertainment and many other events as well as the genius idea of musical bingo!! This can be accompanied by a meal that is more than worth the price of it.

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your experience at our holiday park.

I'm not sure what you stayed in on the park when you describe it as "the room" - all our accommodation has at least 3 rooms plus a kitchen and bathroom. Plus, the description "very basic" is a little worrying.

Nevertheless, I am delighted to hear that you had a great time. Our returning customers are very important to us and we look forward to welcoming you again very soon.

We have just returned from a trip to combe martin. It is a very quiet park and nothing like a haven for entertainment etc(no kids clubs, amusements, shows,( one old out door play area) but what it lacks in facilities it makes up for in tranquillity and beauty and is an ideal base for visiting the surrounding areas. I would recommend Croyde beach for body boarding, it's a beautiful little village and the views on the way are outstanding. Ilfracombe is a great little place too, a bit busier and good for crabbing. If you like to go out exploring then I would say give it a try, if you enjoy the holiday park experience more ie haven holidays style, don't bother ! We were lucky that we had fantastic weather but had the weather been rubbish there would not have been anything to do apart from visiting offsite facilities which we had to do even in good weather to be fair! As mentioned previously we had a lovely clean caravan, we upgraded to gold, and the staff were all very friendly and helpful.

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your experience at our holiday park.

We do take great pride in cleaning all grades of accommodation to a very high standard and it’s brilliant that this isn’t going unnoticed. All comments will be passed on to our Housekeeper and the cleaning team.

With regards to the park's ambience, it has always been our intention to keep this park quiet and actually market it as "A small and relaxing park". This why it has been so successful over the years.

We really hope to see you again in the near future.

We had two sun holidays back to back Fri - Mon & Mon - Fri so in total we had a week on the site and the check in staff very kindly linked the bookings so we were able to keep the same caravan for the week which was great, we also upgraded to a silver grade upon booking as i've done this at haven & park dean sites in the past to get a better quality of van and bigger tv, however on arrival we were given the keys to van 7, we went to van and opened door, it looked very tatty and dated, fridge had rust marks on it and it didn't smell very nice either, whole thing really old and tatty so i went back to reception as i was not happy. I was assured it was a silver standard ( i'd have hated to see the budget!!!) however the staff very very kind and tried to get us another van at their sister site up the road but no room. They did eventually find one caravan no 31 and it was either accept this or try ilfracombe site. We went to no 31 and although it wasn't brilliant, it was much cleaner and slightly better looked after so we stayed as we wanted to be in combe martin. The bed was really uncomfortable and we didn't sleep well at all but at least in the double there were no plastic sheets. The TV was also very small, only had 6 channels (not freeview??) it was also tuned in to BBC one London and ITV Central so we weren't able to see any local weather forecasts which was a bit silly - we also don't like football so with the world cup on we were a bit limited without having full freeview, not good.... On a positive note, the site in mostly residential and as such it is really quite and peaceful, lovely views and pretty site. It's very hilly (need to drive to the clubhouse as too far to walk) but equally the views from the main car park were stunning. Coome Martin itself is only 10 mins walk away and is really quaint. We drove through the village (high street is 2 miles long!) and found a nice pub called Pack of Cards, great beer garden and nice food. We also had take away chips from "Top Chippy" - avoid - it's mega expensive, we paid £17 for 2 cod, 1 chips, 1 peas and two small bottles of pop, we felt ripped off and wouldn't recommend . We travelled around a lot and found North Devon to be a beautiful county. If i were to go back to Coome Martin, i'd stay at the sister park further up the hill as the caravans all look nicer, the views were even more fantastic and site was mostly flat , there was also a shop on site. All in all a good break was enjoyed when all said and done.

Hello Paula

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your experience at our holiday park. We certainly do not ignore any constructive criticism and perhaps there are some areas that could be improved in the interest of future guests.

I'm not sure how you got the impression that the park is residential, however, the reason that is was quiet is because during school term time we have very few families on park.

Combe Martin is notorious for poor TV reception and our caravans are cabled from a satellite dish to get over this problem. The down side to this means there is no local news and weather

Your comments have been passed on to all departments and we really hope that you will visit us again in the near future

Had a really enjoyable weekend stay. Caravan & Park was lovely and clean. Beach just across the road and town shops just around the corner. Reception staff friendly. Bar, beer garden and food was OK but far better than any of the big commercial caravan sites. They only served meals in the evening, I think it was from 6pm. However you can get an excellent breakfast at the cafe called The Galleon, in the town centre. The only criticism I have is, What I thought was a welcoming package from reception was details on buying a caravan. It would be more helpful if a welcoming pack was given, giving details of local amenities, shops/supermarkets and local interests. I would also like to add that Combe Martin is a very lovely town with friendly people. We will be back

With regard to the welcome packs, there are normally two, one about the park and the other about the local area. It is clear from your comments that you did not get one of them and for that I can only apologise.

We look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

We have just had a four day break and found all of the staff on our arrival so helpful and friendly!! We felt at home immediately. The caravan was basic but very clean and comfortable and definite value for money. It was adequately equipped and made a very comfortable base for exploring. The views are spectacular from the park and club and combe Martin is a real gem. Tom and his team were amazing and enhanced our holiday break. We will definately be back and look forward to seeing you all again thanks for an amazing holiday!!
