Fail, actually. This Pub is famous round these parts and the staff are friendly. It's a well known landmark in Combe Martin, the food is not great but not bad and the staff are okay, let's be honest. The Pub has a nice back garden great for the summer, and music during the week. But they rest on their laurels and status: true to form, waitresses turned away single last Sunday lunch , waitresses claimed there were "no tables" when there were several free spaces. (we know, because we tried them out). Big Fail guys , sorry. The new Wetherspoons in Ilfracombe will not turn people away, they will accommodate us. You didn't, just like the George didn't on the very same day, up the road. Luckily we all went in to the restaurant as a group and hey presto, suddenly a table appeared out of the blue on speck ;) Was that magic? No.....it was prejudice.
We here have almost nothing in Ilfracombe, since it appears too many can not run Pub business properly, and Wetherspoons have barged in with a development completing by next summer. Our local Pubs and restaurants will have to up their game and attract customers, if they want to challenge Wetherspoons's cheap fayre and beers. , Not Reputations and complacency, not Obstructive staff and cherry picking will help you! Think on.
