“At home in Exmoor”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 May 2013

Great place to stay if you're visiting the Exmoor area....the Crown is perfectly located and provides a great base to visit all parts of the park.......food in the pub is very good and the room was spacious with an excellent bathroom...the only negative was the mattress in room 15 which was a bit floppy and should probably be replaced. When we return to Exmoor we'll definitely come back to the Crown

Thank you for your comments and we are glad you enjoyed your stay. Exmoor is such a lovely area and we are at the heart so we are ideal for those wishing to walk or explore Exmoor.
I will have the mattresses changed in room 15 and thank you for bringing it to our attention.
We hope to see you again, best wishes Sara, Dan & Chris.

We have just returned from a 4 night break with a group of 30 walking friends. Our room (no 3) was huge with a wonderfully comfortable bed. Lots of storage room, a well stocked hospitality tray and a good supply of bathroom products. Constant supply of hot water even with such a large group.

The food: breakfast and three course dinner were excellent and served very quickly on piping hot plates. The staff were very friendly and helpful and any extra requests were readily dealt with - service with a smile which is not always available these days! We would happily return and recommend The Crown to others. The setting is ideal in a small quiet village with easy access to coast and country.

Room Tip: Room 3 if you want lots of space and a village view. We were part of a group that was fairly early...

If you are looking for a national chain type of hotel look elsewhere. This an old building with creaky floors and squeaky doors old furniture eccentric plumbing and all the better for it. Great bar and real ale and freshly cooked food no boil in the bag here. Good location in the centre of Exmoor pet friendly plenty of local walks. Lovely staff made us very welcome.

Room Tip: Room 3 large room at front of hotel

Thank you for your comments, feedback is always appreciated. We are a family owned and run hotel and it's important to us that we are individual and not formula, we put great emphasis on home cooked food, friendly atmosphere and service. The building itself has great character and charm as does the village of Exford.
We are glad you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again.

Best wishes

We stayed at The Crown with our 2 dogs whilst visting relatives in Minehead. The owners could not have made us feel more welcome. Our room and the general areas that we used were well appointed and cosy but not so perfect that they made us feel uncomfortable - this is a country hotel on Exmoor afterall. Complimentary hot drinks and bottled water are provided in the bedrooms. The radiator controls are very easy to use and work! We ate in the bar on both evenings and the food was very good, the braised lamb especially so, and the cheeseboard and creme brulee deserve a mention too. My husband said the Exmoor Ales were excellent. We were pleasantly surprised to see locals using The Crown as their local pub/eaterie, which made for a good atmosphere! Breakfast choice, quality and quantity were good. WIFI works well except in the dining room. Mobile phone reception was good throughout the building and environs. We look forward to returning later in the summer on our next visit to Minehead.

Room Tip: We slept in the front on the top floor and were not distrubed by traffic noise (and we had the windo...

Thank you for your comments. We are glad you enjoyed your stay with your dogs which are always welcome. We pride ourselves on our food and well kept ales so it's always encouraging when they get a mention. We do have a nice mix of locals, guests and other tourists which makes it a great atmosphere in the bar.

We look forward to seeing you again.
Best wishes

The local B and B recommended here for beers and food whilst we were in the area. We stopped to watch the rugby and took in a couple of well kept Ales. This appears to be the place that the true locals like to eat and drink and has a welcoming atmosphere to 'outsiders'! We stopped for dinner and really enjoyed some well served quality food a step up from your average pie and mash! The desserts were fantastic! A Good place for some good food in the village.

Thank you for your review. Glad you enjoyed your evening with us, especially the beer and food. Our pie is becoming quite famous in the area and it's always a good atmosphere when the locals are on 'form'!
We look forward to seeing you again next time you visit the area.
Best wishes

As a special birthday treat whilst on holiday in Exford we opted for a relaxing Sunday lunch. We tucked into a massive plate of roast beef with seasonal vegetables and Yorkshire pudding washed down with a choice of local real ales and cider. Feeling ambitious we took up Richard's challenge of the pudding board and opted for a sticky toffee pudding. By the time we left, we were so full of food and booze that we could hardly move - perfect way to wile away a Sunday afternoon.

We are regular visitors to The Crown on breaks to Exmoor and find this the best pub in the village - it is warm and welcoming with a real colourful crowd of locals who are founts of knowledge on the local area and always make visitors warmly welcome.

Thankyou Sara and your team for a lovely 2 day break in your comfortable hotel. When we arrived the first thing that greeted us was the wonderful log fire! We were quickly and professionaly booked in and helped to our room which was well appointed and had the benefit of a recently installed modern bathroom. The meals were delightful and well thought out and cooked beatifully and when turning in for the night we were pleased to find quality bottled water on our complimentary drinks trayas well as the usual tea coffee etc.The whole experience was very enjoyable and also while we were there we became aware that dogs were welcome and next time we book in our pet will come with us instead of going to a pet sitter.Well done to you all.
