Our 3 night stay was a welcome break. We found Huw and Sam great hosts. The food was very good indeed, and we appreciated a different menu every evening of our 3 night stay, and also the personal service which we received. The room was beautiful and very peaceful. We stayed in Watersmeet suite overlooking the courtyard. The Hotel is set in lovely countryside and we enjoyed some great walks!

Room Tip: Watersmeet was very quiet with good facilities.

I agree with everything everyone has said. Huw and Sam were SO welcoming and I loved afternoon tea lounging by the pond. The garden is fab and I really look forward to seeing how work progresses.
Next time we shall book earlier so that we can have a room with a view, but this didn't really matter as we spent so much time enjoying the Devon sunshine. We walked as far along the coast path as we possibly could and look forward to how work progresses here too. Huw and Sam are contributing to renovating part of the path. Great idea!
I loved the fact that everyone ate at the same time, this created a really friendly atmosphere over a glass of sherry before dinner.
The dog really enjoyed her stay too. She slept in the car but also loved lounging in the garden.
Best breakfast I've had for ages....! Husband is most disappointed now we're home.

We enjoyed an unforgettable visit to the ‘Old Rectory’ for three nights in mid-April.

Your breath will be taken away from the moment you arrive. Every aspect is truly amazing and beautiful. Every detail leads to new and exciting discoveries. The room perfect; all eventualities catered for with care and consideration, from the bed to the seating area to the free standing bath and complimentary bubbles! Relaxation, enjoyment and pleasure are inevitable without feeling the need to rush – time is effortless.

Eating is an exquisite experience; taste is a sensation lingering tantalisingly until the next mouthful. Masterfully complimented with the aperitif in the conservatory, accompanying light hearted or more meaningful conversation, the extensive wine list, with dinner or dessert, expertly recommended by Sam or the port and after dinner drinks in the lounge areas. Not forgetting, of course, the fresh spring water delivered ‘fast through the pipes’.

Huw and Sam are the perfect hosts - you could not wish for better. They provide an intimate and welcoming atmosphere which radiates their own personal charm. They are great fun and wonderful people and will ensure that your stay is nothing short of phenomenal.

Just returned from a four night stay.

Huw and Sam look after you from the moment you step through the front door to the moment you reluctantly have to leave. Must not forget to mention Edie who also looks after you at breakfast and services the bedrooms.

Many great places to visit and wonderful walks on your door step.

Delightful breakfasts that set you up for the day ahead.

Looking forward to our next visit already.

Kay and David.

This was our fifth visit and we have run out of superlatives! Huw's and Sam's mixture of hospitality, humour and warmth is unique. All their hard work has resulted in a wonderfully relaxing and peaceful atmosphere in the hotel which is full of character and extremely comfortable. Infinitely variable menus and a thoughtful wine list make meals a major and very pleasurable event. The other essential ingredient is Edie who is always so welcoming and adds to the enjoyment in many ways, ably assisted by charming and efficient girls. The large, evolving garden is a delightful place fitting sensitively into the beautiful, surrounding countryside.

All in all, this is an absolute gem and our all time favourite place!

What can I say about The Old Rectory?! It is amazing - you just have to experience it to believe it. We stayed in the Watersmeet suite, which was incredible - spacious, luxurious, charming and so peaceful.

After all the stress of planning a wedding, it was exactly what we needed. Huw and Sam made us feel so welcome and very spoilt with gorgeous afternoon tea and cake, followed by the most sumptuous four-course dinners - SO GOOD, the best food we have ever tasted! And their breakfasts are the perfect way to start the day.

The hotel's gardens are breathtakingly beautiful, and Huw and Sam's knowledge of the local area was invaluable in helping us to explore all the wonderful scenery Exmoor has to offer.

If you're planning a trip to Devon, this place is an absolute must!

The Old Rectory is an amazing find! From the moment you arrive you can sense the calm and tranquility. The grounds and gardens are well tended with manicured lawns and colourful flower beds. There are ample places to rest and take in the whole setting. The hosts; Sam and Huw are most welcoming and helpful. They provide the ultimate in professional service to help make your stay the most pleasurable.
The decor is simple yet tasteful throughout the hotel. We stayed in the newly converted coach house and quite simply the room was furnished in lavish yet comfortable soft furnishings which were complemented beautifully with a modern and stylish ensuite.
The food exceeded expectations with a fine menu of locally sourced meat/fish and vegetarian options. The evening began with drinks and canopes which puts you right in the mood for a culinary delight. There is a selection of fine wines to complement the choice of food and help is on hand from Sam to assist in your choice of the perfect wine to accompany your meal.
The hotel is in a wonderful part of North Devon with excellent walks which are all achievable even to the most unfit of us all!
This is a gem of a hotel for couples. With only 9 guest rooms there is never the feeling of overcrowding or busy. You are welcomed as good friends and every detail is taken care of to ensure that you have the best of stays. If you enjoy class and sophistication, comfort and relaxation with wonderful food and drink then this is the hotel for you!
