“Fabulous 3 night stay as 50th Birthday present”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 April 2013

We have just recently stayed 3 nights at The Old Rectory Hotel and highly recommend the experience. The food was wonderful, catering for both vegetarian and non with plenty of choice which for the vegetarian of us made a change to normal after thought type offering you'd normally expect and the homemade soups were delicious. The ambiance of the hotel is relaxing and the owners are a real pleasure to be amongst. Huw and Sam take time to make the stay a very personal and welcoming experience and are more than happy to discuss suggestions and take feedback on the services. The room we stayed in was a recent addition and was truly superb and very well thought out and spacious, with modern furnishings and a beautiful bathroom and huge bed with plenty of natural light facing the court yard. It is hard to find fault with this Hotel as the food, choice of wine and hospitality were truly impeccable. If the opportunity presents itself I would not hesitate to return.

It is said that you should never go back, that a second visit to somewhere wonderful never lives up to expectations. Not sure who said it but they were wrong. We have just returned from another superb 4 day break at The Old Rectory and it was everything we remembered from our first visit. Perfect room, delicious food, both dinner and breakfast and great choice of wine. On top of this Huw and Sam gave us a wonderful welcome and somehow made us feel like part of the family. My only concern is that if too many people get to know of this gem, we will have difficulty getting booked in again. Here's to our next visit.

Room Tip: We stayed in The Heddon, but all rooms are lovely. The new room in the Coach House is particularly...

We spent a delightful time recently at The Old Rectory. Everything is relaxing and civilised -from the lovely meals to the splendid new Orangerie which is a magical place to spend time reading, chatting or enjoying a preprandial drink. The wine was excellent including the dessert wines which added enjoyment to the already sumptuous dessert. It was wonderful to return to The Old Rectory in the late afternoon to enjoy tea and cake after a busy time walking or enjoying the delight of walking near Watersmeet. The coast near the hotel is beautiful and even though it was cold walking along the coastal paths this did not diminish the pleasure of such wonderful countryside. Visiting The Old Rectory was a rejuvenating experience and the hosts and guests create an engaging and happy atmosphere; and are often eager to exchange experiences of the day and suggest new places to visit in the surrounding area.

My wife and I stayed for the Easter weekend. We picked this hotel based on the reviews and we were not disappointed. The hotel is in a beautiful location and the owners Hew and Sam were perfect hosts. The real highlight for us was the food. This really was superb. We would thoroughly recommend The Old Rectory to anyone. We will be back!!!

Having had such a wonderful experience at this hotel last year I returned this Easter with a Dutch friend of mine. Needless to say both of us enjoyed ourselves tremendously. As many people have pointed out, when making a return trip it feels like visiting old friends. Huw and Sam could not be more welcoming and attentive. The rooms are spotless, the food is outstanding and the utterly stunning beauty of the location really cannot be beaten.
The staff seems to have found the perfect balance between formality and familiarity, ensuring that all the guests are made to feel special and enjoy their stay at this hotel.
Whatever the occasion I cannot recommend this hotel enough. Pack your bags, head off to this hotel and you are guaranteed a few days of pure bliss.

Room Tip: If you need two rooms book Watersmeet and Beeches. They are the only two rooms opposite one another...

An absolute pleasure to be back at The Old Rectory for a 2 night break - Huw and Sam were wonderful hosts as always - their staff are so helpful. We met up with friends made on a previous visit plus spent a super evening making new acquantances. It's a home away from home and you leave your worries behind to have a great time here. The food was exceptional (thanks Huw!) We hopefully will be able to visit in 2013 and see the wonderful orangerie which is to be constructed during the winter months.

Have just returned from a three night break at The Old Rectory Hotel, this is our 6th visit to the hotel, yet again it was totally perfect. A lovely warm welcome from Huw, Sam and their staff it is like meeting up with old friends. The food was fantastic. Huw and Sam are perfect hosts everything they do is perfect, they can not improve on what they are doing because it is total pefection already. If you want a relaxing break with great rooms, lovely food, wine and a warm welcome this is the place to do, you will not be disappointed. Already planning to go back next year for my special birthday.

Room Tip: All the rooms are great, but if you want a little extra spoil yourself with one of the suites.
