“Chocolate Brownie to walk miles for.....”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 May 2010

I felt as though we were driving back in time to a location less frenetic and calming. This superb home from home is in a wonderfully unspoilt area in North Devon;we awoke each morning to the dawn chorus and the sound of cows in the field just over the hedge.
Huw and Sam very quickly made us feel at home and more importantly comfortable.
The food is just great, simple and all locally sourced and cooked really well with a flair that despite the simplicity of the menu was never boring. Thankfully the walking from here is just second to none,do not expect to see too many people if you walk along the coastal path;just sheep and deer !
Oh and I have to mention that chocolate brownie. They are the best, and I`m so pleased that we walked miles otherwise the weight would have piled on.
Just a wonderful place to stay,so hoping to return sometime very soon.
Thankyou so much Huw and Sam

We discovered The Old Rectory some 12 or so years ago and then it was just in a lovely location, ideal for us to recharge the batteries with some good walking in pleasant surroundings.
Huw and Sam are the fifth owners we have visited but their vision for the house and gardens has made The Old Rectory close to perfect for us. It's small, friendly without being overbearing, well appointed without being "glitzy", with food that is mostly locally sourced, well-cooked without pretension with a wine list to match.
The temptation is not to recommend them simply because we're afraid they'll be fully booked next time we want to return.

The hotel is beautifully decorated, it is immaculate. The rooms are especially classy. The food is of a standard which far exceeds any other hotel outside of London - brilliant. The best value for money in a long time. We came back refreshed and inspired!

A haven of peace and superb food. Huw and Sam were excellent hosts. Our room and the public rooms were spotless and welcoming. We would certainly be happy to return.

This was a last minute few days away and it couldn't have been any better. It's all beeen said before - beautiful, stylish rooms - great colours. The food was superb - we really looked forward toevery meal - you must have dinner there. Huw and Sam are good hosts - it doesn't really feel like a hotel - that's a big compliment. Hope we'll be able to book a room next time we go.
