“Excellent hotel for dog owners”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 August 2014

I booked my long weekend stay late but the owner made a real effort to find me a room that could accommodate our dog and also had a bath. The hotel is excellent for walkers, with a drying room and towels to dry off wet dogs. The food is freshly cooked good pub food with generous portions and fair selection. The hotel is family run and they really do go the extra mile, happy to carry bags , offer advice on local walks or interesting places to visit. There are plenty of good circular walks to local pubs.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 10, we liked the room and the quirky bathroom which was accessed down 3 steps, but...

.Stayed at the Exmoor Forest Inn over the August Bank holiday with our two Dachshunds, and were welcomed by the owners on a very friendly basis. Our room (NO3) was very spacious and overlooked part of the hills.Spotlessly clean with a lovely big bathroom and bath which was very welcome after a day of walking...We ate in the bar and the food was very good as was the service..Drinks are a little pricey though.
Across the road are numerous walks through the woods and along the river,so if you have dogs this is the ideal place to stay.We would definitely stay here again.

We stayed here for one night whilst driving through Exmoor. Simonsbath is centrally situated and very convenient for several scenic valley/river walks. The food here is tasty. Room comfortable. Free Wifi. Friendly family - run hotel.

We booked a table here for a birthday meal, having been recommended by a friend who had holidayed in the area, he said the pork belly meal was the best he'd ever had. The night we came the pork belly was off so we were slightly disappointed. The other disappointing thing was that when we arrived the bar was full of families with young children and was very noisy so we asked if there was another, quieter area. We were shown into a dining room that was a bit on the chilly side and didn't feel at all cosy, we were also the only two in there so it felt a bit drab! On the plus side the food was good apart from my starter which was the very small chicken kebab resting on what can only be described as sloppy carrot and I left it. We did, however like the fact that the resident dog visited us during our meal, the owner did try to keep her out but she kept coming back and we liked it.... there is nothing wrong with a dog in a hotel bar and restaurant as far as we are concerned! Would we go again... well if the bar area was quieter we'd have preferred to eat there and we did enjoy our main course but wouldn't eat in the back room again.

Room Tip: We didn't stay here only went in for a meal!

Stayed here for a long weekend, can't fault the room, food or service. The room was very clean and well equipped with a comfortable bed. Extra blankets/pillows provided.
Breakfast was full English with variations, nice to see smoked Haddock with poached egg for a change. Cereal, fruit and yoghurt from the sideboard. A good selection on the dinner menu. Fresh, local produce, expertly prepared and presented and good value for money. My only niggle and it's tiny was the lack of seating in the small bar area. There is just one small bench and some stools, the rest of the room is given over to tables for dinner. There is however a comfy residents lounge with sofa and armchairs, TV, games, books etc. A very warm welcome from the owners, relaxed atmosphere and great location for Coast and open countryside. Sue & Paul

Room Tip: A superior room is nice and big but be prepared for the extra flight of stairs!

Lovely place to stay. Excellent bedrooms a very roomy and cosy.
Breakfast was a very good English and the evening meal just as good.
Would definately stay again the hosts were very welcoming.
The location was also very good very convenient for visiting lots of places you have the choice of sea or country.
The woke ambience is good you feel as if you are in your own home

Room Tip: We had a top floor room would definately recommend if you can climb stairs.

Warm welcome from the owner. I did not have my dog with me but she would have been very at home here. Lovely clean room. Made up as a double but immediately rectified to 2 singles. Food was lovely. Atmosphere was relaxed and easy going. Breakfast was hearty. I would definitely return. Only thing I would mention is stairs up to top floor quite steep due to the age of the building, may be a problem for some. People sitting outside in the garden can be quite noisy in the evening but this is the same for most pubs/inns
