Somerset is the county everybody dashes past on their way to Cornwall and Devon. What a pity they miss the beauty of Exmoor and the chance to stay at Simonsbath House, an excellent, understated hotel offering terrific value and a great experience. Fine rooms, very good food, wonderful surroundings. Whilst you are there, try the Red Stag Safari. Andrew Turner shoes you more in an afternoon than you'd find in a week trying it on your own.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the front, above the lounge.

Stayed for just one night as were at a local wedding and will definitely return for a longer break. The Hotel was beautiful and in a fantastic location. The staff were so welcoming and we'd missed the actual Wedding due to a three hour delay on the motorway which was very disappointing but the staff instantly changed our mood by upgrading us to a more luxurious bedroom. The owner even drove us the 10 minute trip to the reception - above and beyond the call of duty.

Had to leave early to get home so didn't manage to have any breakfast so can't tell you what the food was like but everything else was great so it must be good too!

We booked our stay using The Times Escapes vouchers which gave us a discounted rate. Nevertheless, we were warmly welcomed by the delightful owner for whom nothing was too much trouble. We had a lovely superior room with a comfy bed and everything you could wish for to make our stay enjoyable. The excellent cooked breakfast was included and we enjoyed two delicious dinners in the hotel's restaurant. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel and will definitely be returning.

We had a two night stay at this lovely hotel. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, the ambiance is relaxed with real fires, soft cozy seating, plenty of books and games and a fully stocked bar. The breakfasts were excellent and our three course meal was very nice too. The setting is wonderful - perfect for a silent night's sleep.

Our room was spacious and comfortable with a gorgeous leather bed, double bath and flatscreen tv. The tea/coffee tray was generous and there were fluffy towels and bathrobes (these things are important for a cozy weekend away in my book!)

The best thing about this kind of hotel is that it's a local/family run place with character and charm - so refreshing after inner-city bland hotels.

I would highly recommend this hotel for its super friendly staff, the wonderful location and the unique atmosphere.
