This is the third time I've stayed at this hotel and each time I notice more reasons why I like it so much here. Getting such a warm welcome for me and my dog was the start, but the excellent service you get from the whole team is just the best. It really makes you feel relaxed and comfortable. When I sunk into the double bed in Shepherds Crook cottage, which is part of the hotel, I noticed how clean, fresh and crisp the bedding is. I slept like a log all weekend. Thanks again all for the best hospitality and amazing food! See you again. Sue & Breeze.

my 3rd time at this hotel for a Bath & West Country Walks walking holiday in Exmoor. Superb each time. Excellent standard of service. Andrew a great host. The breakfasts were first class, the evening meals even better. Thoroughly recommended.

Room Tip: some rooms have great views across/down the valley

When we finally arrived at the hotel at 11.30pm after a 5 hour drive, the last 30 mile through what appeared to be a never ending forest, we were greeted by a pleasant gentleman (Paul I think) who showed us to our room and got me a much needed beer.

We stayed in a superior room which was to a high standard, really comfortable bed and nice breakfast in the morning.

Two words of warning -

1/ No phone signal (but free WiFi, though slightly temperamental)
2/ No petrol station for 10 miles, so to avoid having to free roll down hills, top up before you enter the forest!!

All in all a great stay and would recommend to anyone visiting this part of the country.

A last minute decision to relax and get away from it all was happily fulfilled by the charm of this lovely hotel. The staff are very helpful and the location was very peaceful - lovely views down a very green valley. Excellent standard of care in bathroom fixtures and fittings (very clean) and lovely big bedroom (No 3). Breakfast was large and well cooked. Book now, and relax.

We stayed at this hotel for a long weekend and we weren't disappointed. Our room (No. 3) had a beautiful view over the valley and the river which was lovely. Although there is a road in between the view, it is very quiet in the evening and we didn't hear anything through the night. The breakfast and evening meal was lovely and nice staff. Maybe need to do something about the view from the dining room which overlooks a rusty fire escape
The only reason we wouldn't stay again is because it was such a long drive from Sussex for 2 days.
A word of warning, take care with the hot water in the bathroom, it is hot enough to scald!!
Even though a few negatives, we would like to say thank you for a lovely stay.

Room Tip: Choose room No. 3

We have stayed at this hotel many times at different seasons, and have always been impressed by the service and comfort, plus the amazing location in the Barle Valley. This really is a gem of a place to relax and take in the surroundings, with all that Exmoor has to offer.
The food is superb, breakfast to set you up for the day,and dinner to complete.
The warming log fires in Winter are enchanting- possibly one of the best locations in the centre of Exmoor.

Room Tip: Room 4 looks out over the Valley.

We booked for two nights and ended up staying for 4 - what a wonderful quiet place this is. Nice well equipped apartment with access to the lovely little bar in the hotel. Great walks on the doorstep and a wonderful secure riverside tramp for dogs and their owners just 50 yards away. We have to give the bats a mention too - what a fantastic thing to see! We felt very very privileged to be able to watch them go out for their nightly feast from our balcony. No wonder these beautiful little creatures are a protected species - they are an absolute joy. Very friendly owners and staff, clean and warm, comfortable, interesting, well located and extremely good value. Thanks to all at Simonsbath House for a wonderful stay - we will be back.

Room Tip: We did not see the bedrooms but the self catering units all appear to be good.
