Fantasic place to tour South East Devon, excellant food ,bedrooms clean & comfortable Service in the bar area a bit ropey selection of beers o.k. if you like bottled beer otherwise it was a choice of 1 TETLEYS not to be sneezed at. minutes walk into town,1hr 15mins. riverboat ride 2 mins.walk from hotel overall a good place to stay either with Alpha tours or privately. Also there is a lift to all floors and off road parkink which is a bonus.

Room Tip: a sea front bed room would be good @ extra cost

Spent five days here on an Alfa holiday. The hotel is in a fab position, right on the seafront. Our room was very spacious, clean & tidy. We were at the side of the hotel and so didn't have much of a view but as we didn't spend much time there during the day it wasn't a problem. Our only complaint would be the TV, which only received four channels and had no radio stations although the hotel is advertised as providing them.
The food was always tasty, served hot and quite a good choice. Our waiter Aaron was efficient and very pleasant & cheerful.
The staff seem very happy in their jobs and this made for a comfortable stay.
Can't comment much on the entertainment as we went out in the evening but we got the impression it wasn't up to much. We found a pub just down the road called The Grove which had a great atmosphere.
As usual Alfa provided a good service and our driver Mike was very professional.
As for Exmouth itself, there isn't much to do here.
The Cavendish hotel is a lovely place to stay and if Exmouth had more to offer then we would definitely return.

We have just come back from staying at the cavendish Hotel for 5 days with Alfa. What a lovely Hotel, we enjoyed every minute there. The staff are really nice, friendly and helpful. The food was nice too and plenty of it. Our waiter Aaron was excellent he was so good he could work in any four star hotel he must be a great asset to the hotel, I hope the manager realises just how efficient polite and quick he is. Nick was hilarious when he did the bingo he had us in fits of laughter. The entertainment on the Monday night with Paul Anthony was first class, what a singer Paul is, I think he is the best entertainer that we have ever seen in a hotel, and we have been to loads of hotels. We were however dissapointed with the entertainment on the Tuesday night but Paul is a very hard act to follow. The area is lovely and if you go there you must do the boat trip that was good too.
Our coach driver was Andy and he was excellent too he was first class and we also thought that he was the best coach driver that we have ever had, this was our first trip with Alfa as we were trying them out as we have been with another company for years, we are glad we did as we were pleasantly surprised. So all in all a very good experience. Thanks to you all for making our 5 days away a joy. We thoroughly recommend this hotel you will not be dissapointed.

Room Tip: You really must have a sea view to appreciate what a lovely veiw you get.

The food was excellent it come hot and plenty of it the breakfast was the best I ever had in a hotel. The room was clean and comfortable the bathrom was of a good size. The waiters & waitresses were fantastic nothing was to much trouble for them. Now for the grumble some of the reception staff could do with a couse of good British manners a please & thank you will not go a miss, the television in the room was that old I thought it was driven by steam but I donot watch television much when on holiday I prefer radio it was in the hotel wellcome pack that you could get radio through the television( fibbers) good job I had a radio in my case.Just got to add one more praise Stuart of Grayway travel our driver the best I have ever encountered.Hope to come back to this hotel again in the future.

We stayed at the Cavendish Hotel for a weekend for a wedding. The hotel is in a fantasic location facing the beach and sea. The shops are only a 5/10 minute walk away and there are at least 3 pubs less than 5 minutes away as well as the bar in the hotel.

The decor of the hotel is quite old fashioned (think Grandma's house) but it was clean and comfortable.

The hotel appears to be geared towards the retired community so younger people may find it boring, but all the guests we saw where having a fab time.

We only ate breakfast here, but the food was nice and plentiful.

The only downside would be that English is not the receptionists first language and while she has a good command of the language, anything even slightly complicated was beyond her understanding. It took half an hour to make a booking for 2 rooms over the phone and a good 10 minutes to check in. We asked for the bill to be split by room but this just confused her so I ended up paying the whole thing myself and getting the money back from my sister-in-law

All in all, we would definitely return here. It's a great base from which to explore Exmouth and the surround ing areas.

I would strongly discourage anyone from staying at this hotel. Problems started from check-in with a long and tedious process. The room was exceptionally dated, beds uncomfortable and bathroom very small. At the price paid this was terrible value for money and I would definitely not stay at this hotel again.
