Stopped here for an early dinner after a day on Sandy Bay beach. Staff were very friendly on arrival and explained that we could eat wherever we wanted, and pointed out the family area at the rear of the pub by the play area. The kids enjoyed the decent climbing frame and slide they have in the garden, and as the sun was still shining we asked if we could eat in the garden and were told 'no problem' and given a table number. Our three adult meals were rump steak, crab salad and beef & chorizo burger, all of which were excellent. The presentation of the meals was good as well, my burger coming on a slider board with a mini frying basket of chips which looked more gastropub than country pub, and was a pleasant surprise. The kids meals of tomato pasta and ciabatta pizza went down really well, the pizza in particular looked and tasted great. Also the two ladies in the group commented that the wine was really quite good, which was pleasing as the Pinot Grigiot they were drinking was offered by the barman when I asked for house white. Value wise very good as well with a total of £ 51 for all of the meals and drinks for five people. Overall exactly as everything should be, a nice early evening experience which left us very satisfied and will return again if in the area.

Interested to read Alan H review on this place (faulty towers), and can only totally 100% agree. The staff behind the bar were friendly enough, BUT I actually asked the girl if the guy by the bar was the owner, and she responded with a no. The next minute he walked into the private staff quarters, so I would question his response to Alan's post, he didn't want to speak to us. The food indeed was ok, but the wait absolutely ridiculous with no updates as to why, and the place was nowhere near full, people actually gave up the night we were there and walked out! Shame really because if they were honest and explained things better, indeed the place was run better could be great.

We are very sorry for the waiting time that you, and others experienced on this particular occasion. As previously mentioned, we have more than one dining area, as well as the beer gardens, which on this occassion were almost at maximum capacity. When catering for well over 100 people in a short space of time, and when cooking all meals, fresh to order, there will inevitably be a waiting time and unfortunately we may run out of items on our menu and daily specials board due to demand. We also display a sign stating that during busy periods, there may be a delay on food to make customers aware. We try our hardest to keep any waiting times to a minimum and update customers as often as we can between serving food and drinks to everyone.

The chap which you mentioned stood at the bar was not the owner/landlord but an off duty member of staff who lives on the premises, which is why they were using the private/staff only doorway. A member of management staff is always on shift and available to speak to customers and deal with any complaints if brought to our attention. As far as we are aware, the only customers that "walked out", was a group that chose not dine with us, as their young child was very hungry and couldnt wait. We also had a group that chose not to order any deserts after their main meals, as the particular deserts they requested were unavailable due to high demand.

Again, we are very sorry for any inconvenience caused during your visit.

Whilst on holiday at devon cliffs me and 6 other went to the Clinton arms for a family meal, at first when we walked into the pub restaurant very quite, however we heard staff whisper "I hope they are not eating" which we was, we proceeded to order 7 main course's and during the wait for our food we heard at least 3 or 4 parties complaining about the waiting times and also the fact that they had ran out of a lot of choice on the menu, my group waited just under an hour even though we was told 20 minutes however we should count ourself lucky as a party sat next to us waited over 2 hours and left before they got their food, to be fair the food was nice although 2 of the Thai curries where sent back as they was just plates of rice (spot the chicken) both was served without the mango dip as stated it should have a mango dip, the gammon came without pineapple, chose not to order pudding as ran out of several puddings and we overheard from another party that they had ran out of four options for desert, had an entertaining night as we could hear the kitchen staff shouting at each other and the staff arguing, the staff was very rude, when we complained the staff wasn't interested, another customer complained who was told he wouldn't get a refund unless he didn't have his food.

Wouldn't go back again and I hope the people who was complaining when we was there write a terrible review as the staff are a joke.

At The Clinton Arms, all our staff aim to make everyones visit as enjoyable as possible, and I would like to take this oppertunity to appologise as your dining experience with us, on this occasion, clearly did not meet your expectations.

If I recall, on this particular evening, both our dining areas were almost at maximum capacity, and we also had a large number of diners who were seated in both our front and rear garden areas.
During busy times like this, there can be an unfortunate waiting time for food due to the large number of orders going into the kitchen. Members of staff will inform diners of any waiting times so diners are aware, and can maybe enjoy a drink whilst waiting for their meals. At all times we try our hardest to keep any waiting times to a minimum. Waiting times can vary but we have rarely had any diners wait any longer than 45 minutes for their food.

All our food is freshly, cooked to order, and during busier times it is unfortunate that certain items on our menu may sell out. On these occasions, our kitchen staff will try their hardest to get these items replenished as soon as possible, and in the meantime if certain dishes are temporarily unavailable, a suitable alternative may be offered.

If, at any time, any of our customers are unsatisfied with the food or service they have recieved, we will offer complimentary drinks, or deserts to them. If this is unacceptable to the customer for any reason, then we are happy to issue a refund in most circumstances and all customers are welcome to speak to the manager to resolve any dispute they may have.

We discovered the Clinton Arms whilst holidaying at Haven Devon Cliffs. The staff were extremely friendly, excellent service and the food was fabulous. We liked it so much we went back the following evening. I had the braised pork which was on first sight a little small, but my eyes were bigger than my belly as the portion size was perfect, even for my father who ordered it the following evening. The risotto, fish and chips, lasagne, chicken curry and spaghetti bolognese were also excellent. Highly recommend.
