My partner and I visited Lympstone Manor as part of our summer getaway. We were greeted by very friendly staff on arrival and were very surprised when we were told we had been given a complimentary upgrade... which certainly did not disappoint us during our 3 night stay. The room was very luxurious yet modern.... smelt very new (only been opened 4 months apparently) this was evident!!! Only disappointing thing about the room was that it didn't have an aircon however with the short summers we have in the UK I think this is a short term problem only. We were very pleased to have bumped into Michael himself on two occasions.. once coming out of his kitchen( munching away). He was very pleasant and friendly..stopped and chatted for a bit... joked about his mouth being full... says he was trying the food to make sure it was all good for our dinner that night... he's definitely a very busy man whizzing around here and there but you can tell that this place is his heart and soul... the dinner was outstanding!! We went for the signature tasting menu on the first night... my partner doesn't eat seafood much but he tried everything on the menu and we were both very full and content at the end of it however a little on the pricey side. Ideal if you're celebrating something special however for many reasons we opted for alternate dinner options for the next two days. The views surrounding Lympstone are amazing. You could very easily sit on the veranda and sip away at the wine and play Scrabble or just stare into the surrounding areas and perfectly manicured gardens.. it is pure bliss on a sunny afternoon. The reception staff(namely Emma) are all amazing. They are all Very helpful and waitresses/waiters are very pleasant!! Michael is clearly surrounded by staff old and new who obviously hold him in high respect and regard... I think some of the reviews are quite harsh. This is a fairly new place with a few teething problems. Having stayed on a few top notch places around the country I believe that this could be up there as well.... it's not for anyone who's not willing to splash a little bit of cash as it's not cheap... but do expect outstanding food and wine!!!! If you're looking for blissful couple time together you can find it here. Lovely walks and surrounding areas!!! Will definitely be coming back and recommending this place to friends.

One can be forgiven for comparing this hotel with Gidleigh Park, when comparing prices, minus offers, it is impossible not to do so. We were with friends and had booked "Deluxe" Estuary view rooms, the accoutrements were indeed "Deluxe" but the room itself was too small, the two seater sofa didn't seat two people and was an obstacle for those of us who need to get out of bed during the night! and left too little space everywhere else. The staff, without exception, were delightful, friendly and helpful but in the restaurant appeared to lack training. We were on a two night gourmet package, there were gaps in the service on the first night when we had the A La Carte menu but on the second night when we had the tasting menu it all fell apart. We had a problem with the first course which delayed service for which we received an apology, this was fine, thereafter followed inordinate gaps between courses, the longest interval being forty five minutes, with neither apology nor explanation. We like a gap between courses but this we concluded was a problem in the kitchen, we waited for the cheese course and tired and grumpy declined dessert and more wine and retired. A fabulous setting, work in progress.

A special place, meal, wine, setting and service all closely supervised by Michael Caine, who wishes you well when you meet in the corridor.
The martini was dry, Bellini as good as Cipriani described, both taken on a sunny terrace with amazing views.
The food was matched by outstanding wine and both brilliantly described.
Not cheap, but difficult to beat. Probably heading for another Michelin 2 star.

We stayed on Wednesday this week; my Husband's treat to me for my Birthday. I have to say, a better Birthday there could not be!
We were thrilled on arrival to discover we had been upgraded to "Nuthatch", one of the Master Suites. A simply gorgeous room, decorated in a stunning deep lavender blue, with accents of white, cream and honey. It was not just beautiful, but also very comfortable to live in; the two do not always go together.
It has a big balcony with panoramic views across the Exe Estuary.
We were given glasses of champagne on arrival, and enjoyed sipping those on the balcony, in the glorious sunshine; in fact we found it difficult to drag ourselves away form our "vantage point".
The bathroom merits it's own review, having a huge, deep, claw footed bath(me) and a shower big enough to host a party in(him----but without said "party").
Before dinner, we sat on the terrace, again with fantastic views, and had another glass of champagne. (Oops, this is becoming a repetitive theme!) We then embarked on Michael's Signature Tasting menu, 7 (or was it 8?) courses of sumptuous delights. The man just goes on getting better and better. It is clear he loves operating his very own hotel! Thanks must also go to each and every one of the staff, who are a great asset to this hotel. Everyone we met was without exception smiling and friendly and it was obvious they took pride in working there. Special mention must be made of Scott Andrews, the General Manager, although "magician" may also be a fitting title, as he makes a demanding job appear easy, and to Grace, who was so welcoming on arrival, charming and clearly enthusiastic about her work. If you could bottle her, you would hit on a magic formula!
I need hardly say we did not want to leave, but even departure was enhanced by Scott's hugs and goodbye waves! Thank you again all at Lympstone Manor, we shall be back!

Room tip: Opt for an Estuary view if possible.

Dear Lolashappymum

Thank you for the lovely review we were just so pleased you enjoyed the stay and dinner for "Sirs" birthday, we have a theory here that you can never have too much Champagne by the way!
We greatly appreciate the comments regarding Grace, she is indeed a charming and very enthusiastic member of our team and someone who clearly demonstrates our ethos for friendly but attentive service.
Michael is pleased to hear you enjoyed his Signature Menu, and is the first to say how happy and proud he is to be operating his own hotel, he is also quite made up you think he is getting better still!

We very much enjoyed having you both with us and do look forward to welcoming you back very soon.
