Staff very good, although they did not have a good site or equipment to give a satisfactory service, The food although adequate was very low on quantity, more like childrens portions.
The room on arrival had a badly rucked carpet (was stretched by staff) Heating was not working in a lot of the rooms, signs in bathroom warned of extremely hot water,???? joke!!!!!! it was just a few degree,s above cold. Second bad experience with Shearings, will not be trying for a third

Trips included in package very sparse, Not one driver of three we had gave the usual safety instructions, all other trips we have been given them on the start of holiday..

Room Tip: Entertainment and Lift very noisy to rooms on the low level

When i saw £109 for a three day all inclusive i thought where is the catch? But the break was as it said on the tin ,you got full English Breakfast three course evening meal and unlimited drinks from 7.30 till 10.30 and entertainment thrown in.We drank more than the break cost us ,so if you want a cheap break and just to get away for a long weekend then this is fine,Its a bit cheesey but what do you get nowadays for £30 a day Book on line at Shearings its cheaper than direct.dont expect to much but value for money you wont beat it.

My husband and I decided to have a weekend away before the busyness of the Christmas period. We chose Exmouth having never visited this town before. The Grand Hotel was perfect .fsituated for us.

Reading though these reviews is a revelation...the ludicrous, nitpicking comments from some people are equalled only by the poor spelling and punctuation :-D What planet do these 'moaning minnies' come from? And which one do they visit for their holidays? One reviwer even complained that the net curtains in the room were too short!!!! For Heaven's sake people, remember what you paid for your holiday and get some perspective!

My friend and I have just returned from a fantastic 5 day all-inclusive Shearings break and were absolutely delighted with everything. Reception staff at the hotel were great, restaurant staff were so quick, pleasant and efficient, food was delicious and entertainment probably the best I've experienced at 5 different Shearings hotels (and all have been good).

I don't spend my time scrutinising my room for silly little things to criticise. Having paid £202 (which included £10 single room supplement) for 4 nights half board with great food, nightly entertainment, a day and a half of excursions conducted by a lovely, informative driver (Reg) and free drinks, I'd say Shearings provide the best possible value holidays and The Grand Hotel, Exmouth is a credit to the Company.

Thank you to everyone involved and I hope to visit again one day for a similar holiday.

WE too did an all inclusive 2 night break. It worked out abourt £45.00 pppn so not expensive but not cheap. Room small, tired, wooden windows that were about to fall apart. mould on bathroom ceiling. A lift that goes to each floor but not to all the areas, so if disabled, need to walk corridor, through a door, down a flight of stairs through another door and along another corridor. So not suitable for those with walking difficulties especially having to carry own luggage.
And the food - well portions for 3-4 year olds. Example, had a curry = presented in one of those six inch x four inch boat shape dish rice and meat together - plus a poppadom -that was it - plus some sad VEG WHICH CERTAINLY DID NOT GO WITH CURRY. No chutney etc. In fact my husbands pork slices were so thin and small it was an insult plus just two roast potatoes, so he had all the veg out of the small serving dish. Also very small choice on menu then each night something had been removed - not available. In others words no choice almost take it or leave it.

The wine was out of a cask - cheap and awful = we went out and bought a decent bottle to take to our table and for the entertainment after. In these economic times I did feel strongly these places should watch their standards, people will vote with their feet, especially when there are sites such as this. People around at were all commenting about the poor quality and quantity of the food - why then is management not picking this up.
Will say the staff were very good and helpful.
Entertainment - bingo - we did not particiate - but worked out how many tickets sold - and what was actually paid out in prizes - I think the balance paid for the entertainer, as the two certainly did not equate.
Will not return. Which is a shame as in lovely position for a short break.
I don't like being negative but on this occasion I feel justified in writing the above comments.

Room Tip: if you are not concerned about the quality of food and are used to small portions - try it. Be prepa...

Just returned from a break at this hotel. No complaints about the staff or entertainment- both very good -but the room and meals were the worst we've ever experienced.
The food was poor in both quality and quantity - more like school dinners! My husband and I do not have huge appetites but we both left the table feeling hungry after each evening meal.
Worst than that was the room and corridor leading up to it. Both were tired, shabby and in desperate need of decorating. The bedroom carpet was like a mountain range and a definite health and safety hazard! If my house looked like that, I would be ashamed.
Our bathroom smelt of urine and was so small it was impossible to dress in there after a shower! There was nowhere to put toiletries or hang clothes and the only shelf was over the toilet!
We would need a lot of convincing to return!!

This hotel is just fantastic value if you book an all-inclusive holiday. Yes there are downsides - the rooms are a little shabby, but the beds are comfortable, absolutely no complaints about the standard of the cuisine, the staff are always helpful and friendly, the location is right on the seafront, wine included with the meal and a bar you don't have to pay for. What more could anyone want?

Room Tip: Rooms at the front have sea views
